I have accidentally fucked up SO many Elven trading opps because of like ONE bauble. It's ridiculous.

best way to deal with elves is just burn all the forest and trees. they get really ****** off then try and fight you with wooden equipment, hilarity ensues.
They should just accept our wooden products. Making non-wooden items requires the cutting down of millions of trees. stupid elves.
