Description

Corneliu Zelea Codreanu ( born 13 September 1899 ) at Husi ( deceased 30 November 1938 ) village Tancabesti , Snagov , Ilfov county was the charismatic leader of the extreme right wing of christian nationalists called Garda De Fier ( Iron Guard ) political party and of the Archangel Michael legion of the interwar Romania , known as Legionnaires , the Legionnaire Movement or non officially the Green Shirts

Codreanu had complete control of this organization , having the title of Captain
He was assassinated during detention from the order of King Carol the II-nd

At 13 September 1899 at Husi , Corneliu Zelea Codreanu gotten born Corneliu Zelinski . In year 1902 , his father Ion Zelinski turned his son name into a more Romanian one Zelea Codreanu . His mother Eliza born Eliza Brunner was of German origins , more specifically Bavarian
His great grandfather , Simion Zelea was coming from a family of Moldovan yeomen from Igesti village of Bucovina region

During 1786 - 1848 when Bucovina was under Polish administration ( being part of the Galicia province ) , he was forced by the authorities to change his name in Zelinski
Codreanu's great grandfather on his mother side , by his name Adolf Brunner came from Bavaria in Bucovina to work as a border patrol
Corneliu was baptized in an Orthodox church along with his parents that both converted to the Orthodox faith

Corneliu , just like his father Ion Zelea Codreanu , strived to maintain a trueborn Romanian origin , saying that he comes from an old family of yeomen and the name Zelea to have come from the word ' zale ' ( chain mail ) and not from the name Zelinski , which ironically in Polish it becomes translated into Codreanu
