this is a group, (like the tank and aircraft lovers) is dedicated to the IFV (infantry fighting vehicle) like the BMP-2 the M2A2 bradly and so on and so forth, from made up to real life, and anything in between. from treads to wheels to hover, this is for all you people who enjoy those rumbling rolling armored vehicles, that when on the target drop their ramps to emit a large group of infantry. The engine is front to increase survivability :D. The US need to do that with the Abrams. Wrong group btw.
Sorry, but this idea is retarded. The front area of a tank IS already best protected by thickest armor, it's not necessary to put the engine there. But the rear compartment needs the engine block much more, because this is the weakest part of a tank. that's why the entire engine block should be kept in the much weaker rear, so in case a projectile penetrates there, the engine is supposed to absurb most of the impact caused by the projectile and safe the crew's life.
Now that the engine has been removed from the weakest part, there is absolutely NOTHING to protect the crew when a penetration.
the idea is that there's a back emergency exit in the back, should the tank get hit,the crew has an easy way out,the idea of the merkava is,unlike other tanks,is that a good tank crew is more valuable then a good tank, and besides,it ids more likely that in combat a tank will be hit in the front, rather in the back, the tank was designed by israel tal,one of the top 5 armor warfare generals of all times-along with patton, abrams, and rommel,so trust me he knew what he was doing.
