Yep. If it weren't guns, it'd be crossbows. If it weren't crossbows, it'd be bows. If not bows, slingshots, if not slingshots, throwing rocks. If not throwing rocks, swords... then maces, then clubs, and eventually bare fisted.

Mankind always has and always will find ways to kill eachother. Really, guns help to keep that in check. At least they serve as equalizers.

And hell, maybe if we gave some guns to the teachers in that school things would have turned out differently.

In all seriousness though, the issue isn't so much guns. We should all be focusing on the core of the matter. Which was that we had a very disturbed young man who seemed like he was being shielded from the world and left to become very introverted and his mind became less and less healthy as a result. You can't blame guns for the killing. That's almost like when people blame video games, everytime some gamer goes nuts and goes on a rampage. If you want something or someone to blame, the guilty party was this kid's mother. I know it seems like such a controversial thing to propose (since she too was a victim), but... really... she contributed to the problem more than anyone else. They said the kid was homeschooled and then after school stayed home. He already had mental problems and she just shielded the poor kid more from life. It's not hard to imagine someone snapping under those sort of conditions.

Anyway... those are my two cents worth.

It's easy to pick on the mother, while the real problem for the fact that she had such a hard time to raise him lies in your social security system which is utter ****. Blaming the mother is surreal and pointless... makes me want to rant about the guns more..

Too much gun shootouts? More guns! Some people are more vulnerable than others and when the crisis or something else strikes, they can go mad. And that person could very well be one of those school guards some are eager to appoint. To me, as a foreigner, it seems like putting out a fire by adding more fuel. Everyone knows people could use knifes or smth instead. But guns are hard to stop, they are more lethal, they can kill more people... they are our advanced killing machines and you think a crossbow or slingshot would hypothetically be more lethal? Only the police needs guns and the 2% of hunters and sports..

I never said crossbows or slingshots would be more lethal. But when you take away the most effective weapon, the next logical choice would be the next most effective weapon (And I cited things such as crossbows and bows as examples).

As for blaming the social security system. Whether this woman had a difficult time raising the kid or not is meaningless. I'm certain that it was damn hard to raise the kid, but that doesn't mean that her having a hard time caused this. Many people are successful parents in spite of those types of hardships... even with mentally ill children.

Now I'm only stating an opinion obviously, but I stand by my statement that she shared a great deal of blame.

You are right if there was no guns man kind would make new ways to kill people. We would use bombs swords rocks spears anything to kill each other and most likely the world would become the fall out series because as the game says since we have been killing it self.
