I managed to play through several decades worth of game time in Stellaris without ever going to war... granted I made an alliance network rivaling Europe pre-ww1 and then when that seemed like it might not be sufficient built a military that could easily wipe out every civ in the game and the only reason why I wasn't doing that was cause it'd take too long and I considered a diplomatic victory to be quicker.
Wipe them out?! What a waste, at least if you enslave them you get a bunch of cheap labor and cannon fodder you can use for experiments/exploration/war.
