For some reason, there is never a big change without bloodshed.

******* off enough people to form an armed angry mob is pretty damn likely to inspire some change. It's a shame that isn't possible in the west any longer, at best you get sport riots.

And I don't even watch sports, so I never know what the **** people are setting cars on fire over these days.

Sometimes a violent revolution gets taken too far. (The French Revolution was one that was taken too far)

i think that they are pointless, they revolt against the government commanding them saying that they are unjust and tyrants, however when they win the revolution the new government turns into the old government with almost the same rules and over time they become exactly like the original government, it's all a a chance for new people to get power, not for the benefit of the country, but for the benefit of themselves

I find it amusing how "revolution" in terms of politics or rebellion means the replacement of the old system with a new one heading in a new direction radically different from the old, however in practical or scientific terms "revolution" means going in a circle and ending up in the same place you started with no change at all.

The linguists behind this were either imbeciles or brilliantly ironic.

At what cost? Also, people died in Lisbon during the revolution.

A total of about four. Killed by the PIDE; the secret police, not by the revolutionaries. Still, its technically bloodshed so I'll grant you that.

Sadly, there can never be peace without war first. Fighting and bloodshed sends a message that resounds for centuries. Peace won through peaceful negotiation never lasts very long. Peace won through bloodshed can endure for a very very long time.

After WW2 I regret and feel ashamed for my country's fake revolutions in third world countries. Afghanistan, Libya, Pakistan, Columbia... The list goes on of rebels that don't represent the majority being aided by my country's government and international corporations.

I often find myself having this debate regularly with people, so I wish to get you guys involved! Is violent revolution ever a preferable alternative to peaceful resolution?
