I've always thought this game was pretty great, especially the Civil War maps but also the World War I maps. The graphics are pretty decent for their time and the sound design is very good IMO. I'm sad it doesn't have a bigger fan group, especially since I'd love to see many more Civil War maps. It's clearly the best ACW FPS game to exist so far, not counting the multiplayer-only WoR.
Yeah...
Hey guys!
I am currently making a map/mod which takes place in the Battle of the Somme. As a side project if there is a blockade making "Gettysburg". I am using a Battle map to make the map as historically accurate as possible but...the characters taking part in the battle are Russians. Not very historically accurate.
Is anyone here experienced in making/alter models? I tried to convert import the .mesh files into 3dMax but my knowledge using this software and modeling itself is very limited.
Very nice, friend! I always use 3dsMax as modelling tools, so I think I can help you with such thing.
DoD released a plugin for Maya 9.0 which can do such thing too
Hello!
I've managed to find DoD .obj files on this site
P3dm.ru
I can alter the models with blender and then import the objects into the game by making them .mesh files via the toolbag and by configuring the .guy files with notepad++.
First thing I did was to finally get the German helmets historically accurate.
So in a way you CAN create every possible scenario :D
But I am still figuring out how to attach the models to the skeletons in the game, so they can be animated. I can configure the skeletons and ragdolls from other models in the .guy files, but the added meshes won't move. I am sure that I am missing a link somewhere.
Got any Idea on how I can attach an existing skeleton to the .mesh?
I think there is skeleton file in the directory
And btw, can you teach me the full progress about the importing into the DoD?
Sure!
The year started a bit buisy. I hope I can find some time to write a tutorial on this matter next week.
I tried to import a skeleton into Blender and Maya but without success. Gues I will have to rig the models myself, import the new skeletons into DoD and edit the joints in toolbag.
The skelton files in the folders look like they are made with Maya so I will try to figure it out.
ok
Really awesome game :) They should have done a second game of this. It would pass through the American Independence War,French Revolution and Napoleonic Invasions, The Alamo, Second World War, maybe Anglo-Zulu war.
I think even Game of Thrones (Battle of Blackwater) or Lord of Rings (Battle of Minas Tirith)
for a Darkest Days 2? ahahaha i don't think so. But yes, there should be an epic lotr game with the huge battles from the movies and have adventure between big battles. the player would control a soldier, it could have his band of soldiers. Most probably the player would control one of the Dunedain Rangers from the Grey Company.
For Game of Thrones there could be several campaigns, one for each king of the five kings, you would have Stark, Lannister, Stannis and Baelon campaigns plus Daenerys campaign
Even China Battlefield
Maybe Hundred Years War for Darkest of Days 2?
that could be cool! a Darkest Days game with a medieval level, maybe one in the Sea as a sailor from the English Royal Navy in the 18th century
Even maybe Mount & Blade Warband (Battle between Swadia and Nord) or Mount & Blade II Bannerlord (Battle between Southern Empire and Vlandia).
ok you're confusing me xD. How would that work? it's a bit off from the game's theme
anyway, I think Medival Theme maybe good in Darkest of Days 2
indeed. At least in a way like the last level from the first game, where you have to go guns blazing to the past, may be fun ehehe. mow down a whole army with a gun. But could be cool to implement melee combat to the player
xD, just for fun
lol
I hope so
is the studio of this game still active?
No, they have disband after releasing this game. Currently they work for different companies, and nobody care about this game anymore. They even lost their source code for game :(
this is a shame :'( so many compaines disbanded.
Pandemic was an awesome studio too and got disbanded aswell
Yeah, can't believe that they abandon such good game
