Should There Be A Voluntary Denomination Identification System for Christians of ModDB?

As in: should we give people the option to voluntarily state their Christian Denomination at the start of a comment?

If I may, I have a few bits of feedback:
The poll options are too extreme. It goes directly from full-on support of the idea to downright aggression.
My take on this is "neither", leaning to a "Please, no".
God, and only God, can tell without mistake who have Jesus in their hearts and God as the first priority on their lives (and everything that implies), regardless of denominations. If anything, denominations do a great job on dividing the "real" Christians (as in, the ones that are Christian 24/7, not just Sunday mornings).
Thus, I think I wouldn't take even "Non-Denominational". Knowing we humans, it wouldn't take long for it to become yet another label.

It's a good idea in the sense that it can give people a idea of where you're coming from when you talk about beliefs.

But the issue is like what Bread said, it divides us. So on one hand, it can help in debates. In the other, it can push us apart.

So for me, I'm split on this.

I was tempted to vote no for the "you suck" part. Until I realized that this was my idea so the "you suck" would be targeted at me.

This is low Matt, but no worry I have a thick skin unlike you.

Nero, calm down.

@OrangeNero

Actually I made the poll and it was directed at me, and meant to just be humorous.

Sorry for the confusion lol.

Basically there are two options. Yes, and No. I just added for a few lolz to keep it light.

Here is what I suggest. Rather than add a denomination name to comments, we simply add the name as a member title. Many ModDB groups have the ability to add a title below people's names that will show up in forums or in the member list. The title would state the name of their denomination, or system of belief that they identify with. It would be entirely voluntary, of course, but it could prevent a lot of misunderstandings and maybe even reduce conflict.

For instance, I identify as a Quaker. The admins, (or whoever has the authority) could change my group title to "Quaker" or "Left-wing Quaker". If anyone wants to get a general idea of what my beliefs are, they could simply check the member list, scan for my name, and see that "Oh, COT's a Quaker. Huh/Bleh/Hell Yeah/Insert Reaction." That way, people can state their opinions without the need for giant arguments as has so frequently happened in the past.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good debate just as much as anyone. Despite some of the vitriolic posts that went around, I secretly enjoyed it when somebody from our group or another group (hint hint) went on the rampage. What I don't agree with however, are the expectations of uniformity that can so often permeate online religious groups, and the outrage when that uniformity is threatened. Rather than having differences in opinion be revealed through conflict, I say that with this very simple system, people can say what they agree and disagree with, and have little if no major conflict at all.

Yes, labels can divide us, but sometimes a little healthy partition can actually prevent conflict, rather than instigate it. Can you imagine what would happen if the Christian, Muslim, and Atheist groups were all lumped together under the one tag "Religious-related"?

My apologies for the long post, but I feel that this absolutely needed to be said.

Well the votes are in and it seems we're going to get an indentification system!

As it stands there have been 10 votes, and 60% go to identification.

If you do decide to add my denomination for ID, here's a tip about me. I only identify as Pentecostal because I believe in the Book of Acts chapter 2. Nonetheless, that was always biblical. Issue being that many churches are against it regarding it as some kind of satanic influence. If you don't believe God can make you speak another language you've never spoken before in order to witness than heck you know. It was one of the trademarks of the early church, and the only physical evidence that one had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. But to be honest the Church these days doesn't know up from down anymore on such matters.

Too many secularists have made their way into the church and many of them no longer believe in the days of miracles nor the power of God. They try rationalizing everything according to the limits of nature and this modern era of man, totally failing to realize they serve the same God who split the red sea for Moses, stopped the rotation of the Earth so Joshua and Israel could win their battle and route the enemy, and just as well even raised the dead such as Lazarus long after he'd given up the ghost. The spirit of such people disgusts me, because they deny the power of the very one who gave them salvation in the first place. Yet testimony after testimony of people both here in the states and abroad still tells of these miracles happening, even people being cured of disease through prayer. And these aren't just a few hundred people, these are thousands upon thousands who have experienced such things from varying denominations and backgrounds from now to well before this century even began. The days of God's grace and power just never end, never.

Baron, if there's any uniformity us Christians should have it's mutual trust in Jesus Christ. You know, the one who died for our sins 2000 years ago on Calvary. That's like the base prerequisite of the blessings of God and his protection in one's life, do you trust in his son, Jesus Christ? Do you believe in what he did? because if you get that wrong than it doesn't really matter whatever else you get right.

Lastly Baron, no need to apologize for a long post. Just say what you have to say.
No need to act like the world hinges on your next response, relax.
