Welcome to the 9th annual Mod of the Year awards where once a year developers, fans and now for the first time press rub virtual shoulders to help celebrate our community and culture surrounding modifications. 2010 has had some monster releases like the ground breaking Eastern Front adding a whole new faction to Company of Heroes or Nehrim: At Fates Edge releasing a massive singleplayer experience for Oblivion in four different languages.
What is Mod of the Year?
Mod of the Year is ModDB's award show that rewards excellence in modding and all related fields. The MOTY's have been around since 2002 where Natural Selection took away the first Mod of the Year award. The way the big title gets handed out has changed over the years however one thing remains constant and that is the winners truly deserve the title, continuing on to do great.
What is new and what is different in the MOTY 2010?
This year we have changed how the event works just a tad, for one Indies and Mods now have their own separate awards and events so ModDB and IndieDB now both have a award show to call their very own. The other exciting new feature is the change from the well established "Editors Choice" to the brand new "Panels Choice" which for the first time has a handful of press judges casting votes on both the Mods and Indies of 2010 that they think deserve the awards. It's something the ModDB/IndieDB staff have wanted to do for quite sometime, you can see all the judges who are involved over at the judges page.
This is all so very awesome, how do I start voting?
Easy, phase one has not changed from last year, simply navigate to your favorite Mod or Indie profile and hit the big vote now button, anyone can vote for anything they want, but members of ModDB/IndieDB's votes are worth a whole lot more, so make sure you sign in before you vote! We will have more information on Phase two once it roles around!
If you are a developer and you want to participate in this years awards, now is the time to tell everyone you know (especially grandma), drum up some excitement for your project and get the votes you need to make it to phase 2. Who knows maybe your project could be the next Mod of the Year!
But wait, what is this count down for?
Good question, I really don't know what this countdown timer is, could be for anything or everything.... Guess we will just have to wait and see now wont we?
Oh boy!
Is the countdown for Desura by chance?
lots of great mods out there only which to choose??!!!
*no map packs hopefully* wink wink
ohow
It should be Dark Times 2!^^
OH YEAH!!!!... well ive voted for the ONE i wanted to vote for :D
and im assuming the timer has something to do with "DESURA" like "KEITH1437" suggested :D
It's that time of the year again :D
Something tells me there won't be much of a fight this year, seems it's clear whose gonna win, but i might be wrong (and i really hope i am) ;)
Assassins Mod For Mount Blade. Definatly deserves it.
Can't wait to see how this year goes!
So exciting!!! ^-^
Nightmare House 2 perhaps? :D
Looking forward to seeing what the various communities vote for this year.
Good luck to all the modders! :)
It has been one year already....
last year the awards ran from Jan to Feb.. this year we decided to actually run the awards on time and announce the winners hopefully before 2011.
So that might be why it feels so quick... exciting times!
Would have been cool to know about that prior the start of the awards. Its the 2nd year now that I wont be able to release the newest version of my mod on time because the MOTY starts earlier (based on the news it started mid december last year).
I thought the MOTY 2010 would be the Awards for the Mods released in 2010. How is that even possible for Mods that get released in the end of November/December when the Awards start that soon?
If you send me a PM i'm happy to discuss your concerns.
It is a difficult balancing act because on one hand we want to announce the winners before the end of the year, on the other hand everyone releasing late in the year misses out.
However remember that the current phase of voting determines the top 100. Then the 2nd phase determines the winner so you basically still have 15 more days to release provided you make the top 100 now of course.
Yeah I can understand that you want announce the winners this year already but I could give you a large list of disadvantages.... of course via PM ^^
can't wait to see who will win
IT HAVE STARTED! YAY!!!
Woot. Lets get this party started!
Well then, I'll start nominating right away
But what I would like to see is an award for one developer who did the most for the mod community (by providing SDK, Editor, Tools, Guides, etc.).
Thats an excellent thought.
I third this.
Yeah...I remember, just one year back was the my first MOTY.
Don't vote for that Naruto mod... it sucks balls.
that was the most epic thing ive ever seen about voting mods..
Podcast 17 as an official affiliate! Sounds good to me.
you sound good to me
The Morterwood Plaza!!
MarioKart Source!!
Modular Combat!!
1187 Episode 1 anyone?
or Nighmare Hoouse 2?
or Overwatch?
May the best mod win!
pst: I hope it's also a coutdown for Desura =)
Overwatch is still a bit too early alpha. I think it'd have a pretty good chance next year though when it's got a lot more progress, content + polish wise. I like their early release style though.
Yeah, voting for Nightmare House 2 sounds good to me :P
fantastic
voting for The Dark Mod. Totally deserves it.
Jvn.com
i made publicity for the vote
Middle Earth RolePlaying for Oblivion!
stargate empire at war or Middle Earth RolePlaying for Oblivion!
I want to personaly as the leader of Tale of Two Cities wish all fellow mod developers good luck in this contest. May the best mod win.
My heart just sunk into my stomach. MOTY = lots of work for me.
It...has...BEGUN!
MOTY awarad going up.
Yeah, nice work, nice logo, nice countdown. Per years its getting more awesome!
Great work here, lets get ready to vote!
Let's look on the contestant I usually vote for or those who has potential:
Star Wars : The New Era, just rebooted and looks so fine, and will surely get released in the future, it will properly have a very fun multi-player, It is getting one of my votes.
Tension: I find this innovative and like it's updates, it's getting a vote.
Radiator (again this year): If games isn't art, this isn't art. how ever no recent updates, so it's not getting my vote :S
E.Y.E: Ever since I first saw this (when it was a mod not an indie), I was like, they can't do that, cause that's too awesome, if it wasn't because I doubt it would be released in 2011 I will not vote for E.Y.E.
MERP: I can't think of anything more crazy, walking from the shire to Mordor, IN REAL TIME! Amazing, I think it deserves a vote, even though it properly wont release a (playable or at least not total bugged) version, I'm still gonna vote for them since I belive they can do it.
Overwatch: I was one of them who played the first semi public release, it was lots of fun at the start but after about 30 games, where I could almost every-time, know the outcome of the game, it became doll, it's good, but not so good as the other I have written about. It's not getting a vote from me, because I know it will be among the top 5, anyway.
Human Error: Coop, I said enough, it's getting a vote.
Those are the only ones (I have properly forgotten some) I have considered to be at least eligible for a title with such prestige as MOTY Winrar.
Good luck to everyone, can't wait to see who'll be the winner!
You know, these MOTY awards start becoming a way for me of feeling older :P
It's that time again? I better get voting :).
Wow! Has it really been a whole year since the last one? It is that time again, good luck everybody.
:D
Vote for Blitzkrieg mod For Company of Heroes!!!!!!1
And for Forgotten Hope 2 mod for Battlefield 2 !!!!!!!!!1
I love this part of the year !
Oh man, this is gonna be, at the very least, extremely interesting to follow with so many truly powerful projects in the mix. A lot of people have really improved their skill-sets over the past year, making them all the more difficult to choose from. As for the Indies...some really tough choices there ! I'm tracking at least a 1/2 dozen favorites !
Well, let's buckle up and have some fun ! Best of luck everyone !
hurray!
RENEGADE X!!!
Can't wait was a good year in the mod scene, hopefully indie db will get love because its their first year (citatuion?)
Also couple mods to mention (all HL2 mods though sorry!)
Tales of Galaticopon (fresh and exciting I love it!)
Demons v Humans (from the beta its promising)
Black Mesa (classic)
Operation Black mesa (classic 2)
Nightmare House 2 (Big one!)
1187 (still gotta play through it all but liked the start)
Stalker mods (some looked good for the original game)
Overwatch
I wish all good luck!
Hi all.I have a question, what is the name of the first game on that movie?
And also for fans vote for HOMEWORLD 2 COMPLEX 7.44
Hey, you know what, you need to do MOTY each month!
I.e. make MOTM with instant awards & rankings instead of just a spotlight video! ;-)
Would make dev groups work a little (LITTLE!) faster!
