Mod of the Year is the largest celebration of hobbyist, amateur and professional modification developers. With record attendance and a massive number of updates, releases and new projects 2010 was a year like no other, packed to bursting with goodies to make any tired relic PC game seem new and exciting again. The Modding Hall of Fame has rolled out the red carpet welcoming one and all to see the best mods ever released all in one place.

Up until Jan 1st 2011 join us and help celebrate your community, culture and give thanks to the developers by voting for your favorite projects. For the first time in ModDB history we have a press panel which sees personalities from other websites like Joystiq and Rock Paper Shotgun have their say where it counts. Welcome to the 9th Annual Mod of the Year Awards.

Our good pals Noesis have once again stepped up to sponsor our little end of year event by giving away subscriptions to the newly released website called Design3. Design3 is the ultimate destination for game developers from beginners to pros boasting tons of tutorials for you to stream as you learn the in's and out's of game development. Their collection of Source and Unity engine tutorials cannot be beaten, which is why winning team in each Players and Editors choice category will be receiving these awesome prizes:

  • A VIP membership which provides lifetime access to design3.com
  • VIP access cannot be bought so this prize is exclusive and to be shared entirely by the winning team to stream all the tutorials they want
  • Alternately if you want to split the membership up the great guys at design3.com have told us this is possible

The Noesis tutorials are designed for use by both novice and experienced game developers with multiple ways to access the content. You can either learn the tools while you are building some simple games, or search the content by either keywords or tags to solve specific challenges. With the lifetime access you will always have the resources on hand you need to not only help build your dream game, but learn about the entire process at the same time.

I couldn't think of a better prize could you?

This looks amazing, props to Noesis for offering so many GOOD reviews. I am definitely going to take advantage of this.

To whoever complained about only being able to see a setup tutorial for free and thinks that basic tutorials should be included, you can find basic tutorials on the internet for free anywhere. IMO this service is not for absolute beginners (although it would be great if they were willing to pay). Once you get past the beginner stage and know game design is something you wish to pursue, paying for the quality of these tutorials seems worth it.

It's not about the mod, its about learning the skills to make them, not something you can easily put a price on. Noesis has done a good job at that!

well sorry, I didn't have the chance to really appreciate a good tutorial, cause most of them cost money... there you have it.

I would honestly use D3 but, paying money for this stuff isn't really cool. It'd be nice if they just put a couple of ads here and there, but a subscription to the service? No thanks.

Thanks for the comments guys, we're stoked to be sponsoring the awards again this year!

Yes, it's true, design3 does have a low monthly subscription fee in order to see all the tutorials. But, you can also register a completely FREE membership and get total access to the design3 community as well as access to certain free video tutorials. The trial membership will not cost you a dime and is a good way to check out design3 before signing up. You can register a free trial membership here:

Thanks again guys, we're really looking forward to seeing this year's MOTY / IOTY entries!
