Zombie Grinder is the debut game of TwinDrills, an indie game development duo made up of Tim 'Infini' Leonard and Jordan 'Jordizzle' Chewning. It's a multi-platform (windows, mac, Linux!) (also Free!) cooperative multiplayer arcade game, reminiscent in style and gameplay of retro games like 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' and 'Super Smash TV!', but with the added benefit of some newer game mechanics - achievements, ranking, player-customization, rpg style stats and so forth. The game sports a variety of different game modes, from co-operative 'campaign' style levels, to wave maps and even the classic 'pvp' style game modes - deathmatch, capture the 'bag' and so forth. All of these mods are bristling with a variety of weapons and items, all lovingly displayed in Jordan's classic quirky pixel-art style.

Greetings, all!
You may have noticed in the last patch, we added a new Zombie Type. The explosive zombie!!! We patched him a little early so you guys could have a chance to playtest, and help us make him a bigger challenge. This thread will act as a medium for suggestions and comments on him from the community. Think he's too fast? Too slow? Too weak? Too over powered? We want to know! We appreciate all community feedback, as we want to create a game not only Tim and I enjoy, but all of you as well!

Thanks for your time, and all of your on-going support, even while we're semi-unproductive :O!

I think the new explosive zombies are perfect except that they're wayyy too fast. It makes them a lot harder to kill than they should be.

My only complaint is that when using a flamethrower they explode on contact not giving you any reaction time to get away from the explosion.

Thats intended :3

Stop people spamming the flamethrower, you have to think a bit before you fire :3

I think that they should be slower and when they explode they should damage the other zombies as well, only about 15 damage which isnt to much on later waves.
And although I havent tested this so it might already be in the game but if you kill them while they are frozen it would be good if they diddnt explode.

I was thinking, if the player blows the zombie up, it only deals explosive damage to nearby zombies, and not players. That way if the zombie detonates by you, it's your own fault for not killing it first.

Wait Im confused did you mean "players, and not zombies" cause otherwise that paragraph doesnt make sence.
But disregarding the typo its kinda hard to kill the explosive one's first (especially during the layer waves) as thay have more health than the normal zombies (despite them being filled with explosive gases or something) so I think it would be a good idea to either slow them down or lower their health.
As for them damaging other zombies 15 damage isnt much but it will make players think when to blow them up by trying to save an explosive zombie for when a huge group of normal zombies comes or getting a few to low health for a huge chain explosion (which could be an achievement). It would add more strategy to the game and more fun!

If the player kills the explosive, it should damage zombies, but not the player :P That way you effectively turn the zombie against other zombies. It sucks when zombies are so fast you CANT kill him without him dealing damage to you :(

lolno. That makes the exploders utterly pointless as opposition.

That basically makes them a mildly portable grenade lol.

I'm fine with the exploding zombies. Only in the arena map, when they are like a B-17 bommer carpet bomming the tinnny map, they kinda take away the fairness :p
though honestly, Im' not complaining. Even with the carpet boming we are surviving, so they can stay. ^_^ they spice things up a little. ^_^

how about making them do damage but if a zombie explodes it wont drop coins or give exp, also any zombies it blows up wont either

I tried Zombie Grinder this weekend and found that it requires internet to play. Does anyone know if offline LAN will be implemented?

Its on our list but not likely - its a multiplayer game, your not meant to be playing it on your own.

Not a problem, I just do LAN parties and my internet may not be able to handle 6 connections at the same time.
I'll give it a go and let you know how well it runs

If your just playing LAN it should be ok, the only outbound connections should be the instances of the game to the master server, which requires very little bandwidth (basically just transferring small profile files and a few other bits and pieces), should be capable even with very low-end connections.

So run Zombie Grinder online, then host my LAN game. Then all my local computers will use the local network for playing and not the internet?
Very nice!
That should do it, thank you

Explosive zombies are a nice add, but there are many different edits in their appereance. Although this is good, this also makes the normal zombies feel bland. There should be more edits for the normal zombies to match. Perhaps the zombies look different depending on the location? (forest = green zombies, indoor = blacker zombies)
