In World War Two Nations players must combine the key areas of tactics, economy, diplomacy and intelligence in order to create a winning strategy which will allow them to dominate the world.

Battlefield Tactics

Ultimately a nation's fate rests of its ability to perform well on the battlefield. A wide variety of units are available, each with different attributes and abilities. Players will have to make tactical decisions such as whether to use their airpower to destroy an enemies infrastructure or use it directly against their troops to gain an advantage in battle. Also whether to circle and destroy enemy units or drive deep into enemy territory and risk counter attacks.

Economy

In order to field the units it needs a nation must have a strong economy. Resources are limited however and so decisions must be made on where best to spend them. Does a nation spend its resources on units now and risk being out produced later or does it build up its infrastructure and risk being overwhelmed?

Diplomacy

Fighting a war on two fronts is never a good idea so a Nation must forge alliances with others in order to survive. Diplomacy is WWII: Nations is open ended, so an alliance is only as good as a Nations word. Imagine France and Germany are at war and Italy is friendly with both, should they be faithful and not get involved, ally with one against the other or pretend to be faithful to both but secretly plot with Spain and Poland to devour both France and Germany?

Intelligence

Knowing what your enemy is doing, a Nation can send spies to other Nations to determine what units they have, where they are and what the targets economic situation is. All useful information... unless of course they find out.

At the moment WWII Nations has one type of AI that you can play against. This AI will adapt to the situation it finds itself in so you will probably never have exactly the same experience twice. It is hoped that this AI will offer a challenge to most players and enable to reply the game often. We do however want more.. much more.

The current AI could probably best be described as having a generic personality, it will adapt to the situation it finds itself in, try to keep its Nation in balance and expand to win the game. We want to add much more specialised personalities which will increase a Nations chance of being successful. For example the AI for Iceland may become even more naval focused than it currently is and the AI for the Soviet Union much less so.

We would also like to have AI that occasionally chooses a more reckless strategy.

Ultimately the choice will be down to the player. When creating a game a player will be able to choose from a list of AI difficult levels which will make the game easier or harder to suit the players experience level. In addition to that they will be able to assigned more specific AI to each Nation within the game if they wish to – the player will be able to play the game how they see fit.

There are currently over 160 attributes which determine how the AI will act within the game, everything from how much supplies the AI would like to have in it’s stockpile to the probability it will declare war on a neighbour. Modifying there will enable us achieve the different difficulty levels and specialisations mentioned above. We would like to make these available to players at some point so that they can create their own AI personalities and share them with others.
