News Update #20:
Ironside

Hello and welcome to the 20th update from the Traction Wars Team. The past couple of months have seen some great progress being made by the team towards alpha including the first British vehicles to being rigged and the continuing implementation of our first custom gamemode.

Firstly for this update we would like to present the first in the new series of introduction videos. Introduction Video #1 has been created by [TWDEV] hannibaldinski to showcase the new Cromwell Mk.IV

"The Cromwell tank began its development as a new Cruiser tank to replace the ageing Crusader series. It was originally to be fitted with the 6-pounder; a good, high velocity anti-tank gun. This was soon overruled and it was fitted with a 75mm cannon like that of the Sherman, to ease ammunition needs and to provide better HE support for the infantry. This had the effect of greatly reducing the tank’s anti-armour capability.

With armour just as thin as that of the Sherman’s, the main advantages in the Cromwell design were found in its low silhouette compared to the Sherman, and in its extremely high speed of approx. 32mph, making it the fastest tank of the British army during WW2. This gave it enough agility to outflank German tank units, and a greater chance of making a kill-shot before the Cromwell in turn was knocked out.

In general, the Cromwell was a good, fast cruiser tank that gave excellent service in the British, Canadian, Polish, and Czech forces in Normandy, however it was rapidly made obsolete, as the Panther tank grew more and more common in the hedgerows of Normandy."

The original Cromwell model was created by community member Coca-Cola and was finished off and textured by [TWDEV] Brrr.

Last update we welcomed [TWDEV] Dunathan to the team who has been busy creating suitable vegetation for the luscious Normandy countryside. The first of Dunthan's beautiful creations we would like to showcase to you are some Apple trees which will be found in Orchards around the region.

In other news we have just added several new FAQs to our website including a statement regarding the announced release of the CRYENGINE3 SDK which you can read below or here.

Team Statement:
"The release of the CRYENGINE SDK presents the team with a exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of Traction Wars beyond what is possible as a Crysis Wars mod. However the information about the SDK is currently quite limited so at this stage we cannot make an informed decision. So in short - the option is being considered but we don't know... yet!"

We are looking for new team members so if your interested or just curious about joining the team, then take a look to see which positions are currently open and to find out more about the team.

If you like what you have seen or would like to contribute your own ideas, or thoughts about the mod directly to the developers you can visit our community forums.

Wow.. That look damn impressive. Now the only thing that's missing is 'destructable' foliage, for example bushes that'll stay 'down' when a tank has driven over them.

If you went on to the cryengine that would be amazing.

This already is on CryEngine (2). It's a Crysis Wars mod, according to the mod information.

I think he means going from a Crysis Wars Mod to the Cryengine SDK.

You made me literally IRL facepalm. Firstly in that you missed that this IS on CryEngine, and secondly that you imply with that statement that if this footage wasn't on CryEngine, it wouldn't be amazing.

To the devs... WOW, this is ridiculously amazing and gorgeous. The suspension model is incredible, I'm just curious whether I was ignorant and tanks already did that in Crysis and I didn't notice, or did you guys have to make it do that from scratch?

Its a crysis thing, although of course the tank treads has to be set up to do it first and it has to be done well to look right.

Sweet Jesus. Never thought this mod is coming back. Came back with a blast, looks damn great :D Does it have a interior?

No interior as of yet is made, other than the main gun sight and machine gun sights. Were going to have a fixed position 3d model of the drivers hatch/viewing slit though as an optional driving view along with the top of the turret and third person views.

"though as an optional driving view along with the top of the turret and third person views."

I am pretty sure that being able to drive from those perspectives is not historically nor realistically accurate which I thought your mod was driving for by looking at the Summary page.

I've just been made aware were not going to have the 3rd person view in the final iteration. At the moment for testing the vehicle in game there is currently a third person view.

Everyone make mistakes and misinform on occasion, so sorry. I hope you liked the update none the less.

'When it’s done' is a little contrived. But that basically is the case, if we can muster support and more members the mods first release will naturally be sooner. We do have a healthy dedicated amount of devs at the moment however, all pushing towards the objective of preparing everything for the first release.

Thanks for the comment btw, I hope you liked the update.
