The technical demo for Black Isle Studio's Van Buren (cancelled Fallout 3)
(buried)
Looks like it would have been good, but, if this was finished, Fallout would not be being made by Bethesda, and well, Bethesdas Fallout games are much better then the older ones, i hate the view on the old ones it sucks.
besides, fallout van buren had no effect over bethesda. the only reason why bethesda is making fallout is because bethesda is one of the branches in interplay, which cut itself off before interplay died. they werent able to get the rights to fallouts engine, and thus lost the ability to make the old fallout games. this birthed the new fallout 3 engine.
Let us stick to the fact that tastes differ AudioGhostâ„¢.
As an old school Fallout fan I would have preferred Van Buren over Bethesda's Fallout 3, which IMO ruined the series with horrible ideas and content that appealed to people who never cared about Fallout otherwise.
I rather would have had it that Fallout had died rather than being zombie resurrected by Bethesda in order to appeal for the 'for lulz' crowd.
Fallout started as a hard PnP RPG for which Isometric Viewpoint is ideal before it was turned into a FPS/Stat hybrid (stats do not make a game an RPG), loosing many elements that made it good.
i agree. after having played fallout 3, i bought fallout 2 and it was way different.
though the turn based fighting was a mess and you almost always had no chance to survive at all because you never have enough AP to reload weapons and shoot.
but the game was fun.
it has a different lore and a different style.
also i hate the way you level up in fallout3.
even if you play it without addons, by level 10 you're already almost a god armed like a 10-man-squad and it gets boring...
i hope you'll keep working on this, fixing bugs and have a difficulty option which doesnt make enemies AI stupid, but just lets you have more healthpacks etc...
Bethesda has ruined the serie. Plain and simple.
i hope you provide a real working download soon
There is a working demo for download on No Mutants Allowed. Here's the link to download it:
Nma-fallout.com
I know this is a long time ago, but that link doesn't work, and the one I downloaded from here loads up until after character creation, but then I get a FATAL ERROR that says "attempt to send nonexistent creature to client." Do you know of any other downloads, or maybe a fix?
Sorry, I just had to run as administrator and in compatibility for Windows XP service pack 3. Works now! Just have to deal with regular crashing, so getting through the whole demo is just all by chance.
BREAST NUDITY?? downloading...
As much as it breaks my heart to admit it, this as a fully working game will never see the light of day, I'm mental about fallout 1 & 2 and while I enjoyed "Fallout 3" by bethsoft it just wasn't the same as an interplay producded dark humour fallout game. Maybe..just maybe if some modders got the source code then it might work, but chances are slim..
i'll mod the fallout 3 demo and make it a full game. sounds like fun! I grew up with these games!
Well i was a small D***s*** then i couldent pass fo1 begining or get to the town so yea
The main issue I had with Fallout 3 is that it had very little character development besides stats. I loved that in Fallout 1 and 2 your character could be any personality you wanted them to be and it would cause you to have a reputation based on your actions. An example would be if you killed a child then people in other towns would know of that action and hate you for what you did. In Fallout 3 the most that would happen is a group of mercenaries or bounty hunters would go after you depending on if you're evil or deactivated the bomb in Megaton.. Being good or evil had no real outcome besides certain party members joining you but the towns people would still act the same.
I agree with you fallout 3 is so not the same, it feels as though there's no something in that game. i love fallout 1 & 2 i cant count how many times ive finished those game.
