From Udn.epicgames.com What Is Not Supported

"Naturally, given the limited memory on PS3, etc, there are limitations to what you can do.

Mutators and game types must consist of UnrealScript code only. This means that you cannot have a mutator that turns all UT3 weapons into a space cow model that you import....

Importing sounds is not supported. This is because UT3 uses a proprietary version of ATRAC3 and we are unable to release the tool that is needed to convert .wav files to the format required by the game. It is unknown if we will be able to have some system for sound conversion in the future...."

Then why are there so many mods planned on being ported to the PS3? Limited memory? Dont see the problem there, my PS3 has enough memory for a few hundred MB of mods/models.

Guve it time people, the mod tools will probably get better over future releases.

No doubt it will improve. And maybe they could offer a webservice to either convert the soundformat or cook it.

Nothing wrong with letting the people know the limitations right up front, there are tons of posts on the epic forums about the current limitations and being a reader of those forums I selfishly wish to increase the signal to noise ratio ;)

The issue isn't the 'memory' as you call it (storage space ). The issue is the literal memory, the RAM. It only has 256Mb of main memory, and 256Mb of video memory available, and that's really very little compared even to a very low-end PC.

As for the audio, the ball is in Sony's park on that one. Only they can release tools or similar to allow 3rd party modders to convert audio.
