Couldn't get it to install. Refused to install in the Downloads directory. Kept saying, no permission or need permission. And i had chosen that folder because you don't need permission to install or write there. WTF?

Try this:
gunzip ut2004-lnx-demo3334.run.gz
sudo chmod +x ut2004-lnx-demo3334.run
sudo sh ut2004-lnx-demo3334.run

I'm not a Linux user so I can't really help, sorry.

I appreciate the help Rajliv, but I don't have to use chmod to change the permission, it is already set up properly i had made the file executable and i had tried sudo just as a lark. I have installed numerous items in the past in that particular folder with no problem, ever. Never needed sudo either. Folder permissions are set.
I've no clue what the problem is with the file.
Thanks anyway for the attempt.
Have a good day.

Okay, after screwing with the download for half an hour i finally got it to install, but instead of installing in the downloads folder, it installed itself in my root directory. It would not run , so i went to uninstall, annnddd no good. How do i uninstall this beast? i tried sh and python, but no good. What do i have to do to remove this?
the info file states:
UNINSTALLATION:
There is an "uninstall" script in the directory where you installed the game. Run that as the same user that installed the game, and it should remove all traces of itself.
I tried sudo, that didn't do it. what's the magic word?
thanks

I don't know where the mentioned problems come from. This download works just fine with Lubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) amd64:

1. Run `gunzip UT2004-LNX-Demo3334.run.gz` to unzip.
2. Then run `sudo sh UT2004-LNX-Demo3334.run` to install. You should be fine pressing ENTER on every question to select the default settings.
3. There is a start menu entry for the game which you can click to start it. Or (if you didn't change the installation target directory) you can run it with `sh /usr/local/games/ut2004demo/ut2004-demo`.

In case of no sound with error `open /dev/[sound/]dsp: No such file or directory` you can install `sudo apt-get install oss-compat` and load the module `sudo modprobe snd-pcm-oss`.

Have fun! :-)
