I like the font. I think the upper arc would be better as a tentacle or something more lively/rounded to give the idea of something organic. I think that with the gear giving off the idea of technology, an opposite organic feeling would help to balance it out. I'd also make it a little more compact if possible.

The left hand curve is meant to look like the shine of a star on the side of a planet.
If you've seen our forums, all our thread icons are based off of this, and sme simply have a "T" instead of the entire word "THRIVE".
