Does this have any kind of magic system? How varied are the items and monsters?
No magic. All the combat is melee. There are about 40 or so items in the "floor loot" tables and a number of items you can only get by killing monsters.
Game looks interesting although I don't know about $9.99. I'd probably spring for it if it ever goes on sale or lowers its price to about $4.99. There are just too many of these games and many are cheaper or even free. Keep at it though, I wish you luck.
I wish someone would make a Temple of Apshai Trilogy type game, or even Gateway to Apshai. Sadly, those classics from Epyx have never seen remakes or related type games. :(
Funny. The appeal of these games aren't the graphics. Otherwise Dredmore would have never been a success.
Does anyone know if Blitz MAX ever got it's Linux Sound support issues worked out? When I last checked, either it worked for you or it failed to attach to pulseaudio and segfaulted. It kept me from buying Little Space Duo. (Fortunately it had a demo.)
What is wrong with Dredmor's graphics?
They are cute, but I had seen screen shots for about a year before buying it. It didn't look good to me and I just wasn't interested in the game. I'm usually better about judging RPGs on looks.
I'm glad I finally picked it up. The game is excellent and I'm eager to see what else Gaslamp comes up with.
I find Dredmor's graphics to be one of its strong points, oddly. I love the hand-drawn, unique look. To each his own of course, I just found this amusing.
With The Wizard's Lair, I use OpenAL through BlitzMax - Desura should install it automatically with the game. If the library isn't installed, installing (apt) package libopenal1 does the trick equally as well.
Cool thanks!
Nice art. Keep it up :)
