The demo contains most of the prologue chapter, a taste of what’s to come in the game. The prologue follows Sydney’s first night and day in Victorian London before the main plot begins, meaning it’s virtually spoiler free. It’s still in the very early stages so everything is subject to change, and a few animations, musical pieces and dialogue options are missing, but it’s still very playable, and I hope, enjoyable!
- The demo is Windows only as I haven't had a chance to test it on Mac and Linux, but if the demand is high I'm happy to let you take a chance on those versions!
- Dialogue cannot be skipped at the moment
- The game autosaves at the start of every scene in case Sydney becomes stuck
- The final game will include a world map, allowing you to leave locations at any time
- There are only a few dialogue options with the park Ragamuffin at the moment.
- There are only two pieces of music in the demo, both of which are works in progress, and few sound effects.
- Some animations are missing/incomplete such as Charlie and Sallis running away from the alley
- Characters are quite static at the moment, and don’t much more than blink and breathe. In the final game characters will have much more interesting idle animations, and Sydney will also do things when left alone (adjust his tie, etc.)
- The cab ride sequence will probably be shortened in the final game, and will include characters Sydney will meet in the future walking around the streets at night.
- The pause menu is pretty unattractive as was made just for the demo.
- Scrolling backgrounds may still scroll when paused.
- Hoof beats may continue when paused (cheeky horse!)
- The cursor will glow when placed over an interactive object in the final game
- ‘What on earth are you talking about?!’ I realise some of the language may be difficult to those with English as a second language, which is why I’m really committed to translating the game after release.
- The final dream room entrance will involve Syd falling from the bed on the ceiling, the blue light is a placeholder animation.
- Spelling mistakes will be obliterated!
Black screen under Wine and VirtualBox (in VB at least a cursor but still all black). You might want to reconsider the Linux version for the demo maybe ;)
Would you be willing to try out the Linux version if I put it on gamefront? I can't promise it will work at the moment!
p.s. I accidentally clicked negative karma instead of positive, sorry :S I will now proceed to upvote all of your other comments across the site!
LOL. Don't worry. I'm used to down-vote fanboys so one by accident is no problem to me. ^.=.^
32 or 64 bit linux?
I'm 64-bit but 32-bit works too as I've got multi-lib. You can put it anywhere you like. And yes, I'll help you test it if it's of help to you.
Awesome, thank you! Here's the link to the 64 bit version, I really hope it's playable! I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions! Gamefront.com
