The first Black Dogs were formed by the NSDF to be a special forces to counteract the larger roaming CCA armada. Under the command of Lieutenant Burns, they went to work cleaning out nests of CCA and CRA forces around the Solar System. After the major battle against the CCA forces on Io and Europa, the Black Dogs were given rear echelon duties with collecting scrap of Ganymede and the smaller moons of Jupiter and Saturn. They became under attack by the Chinese Red Army and held up under a feirce attack, crippled the Chinese Army, discovered a brand new relic and Star System, all within 2 months. The Black Dogs succeeded to become legends, but in the last battles of the Furies on Achilles, they got slaughtered and many were killed. Under experiments created by General Armond Braddock, the Black Dog survivors were experimented on and finally a race of super humans were produced. Lieutenant Burns did not agree or like the idea of his people being used as weapons and so he and his men fled from Braddock using their new technolegy that the biometal seemed to give them. The re-named themselves the Scion Collective.

The BlackDog Squadron once the pride of the NSDF fleet during the biometal wars of the 1960's their prowess on the battlefield was legendary, during the ISDF years under Braddock their fall from grace spectacular, their involvement in project pedigree and the Scion incident sealed their fate forever, now under the jurisdiction of the EDF ( Earth Defence Force ) they are nothing, the forgotten army, the lowest of the low. Earth's military forces were decimated during the Hadean war, following this confilct there was a "big draft" to help replenish Earth's forces and also to help govern our newly growing empire, during this draft certain "undesirable elements" found themselves conscripted into military service and the military prison population began to swell beyond the adminstration's capacity to cope. That was until someone had the bright idea of transfering all the undesirables into the BlackDog squardron, BDD or BlackDog Duty became a new punnishment the theory being that someone could serve their time in the BlackDogs rather than go to prison, in reality it was nothing but a thinly disguised death sentence. The BlackDogs get all the worst jobs if there's a conflict they're usually the first in, they fight on the Cerberi front lines and patrol the Hadean border zone, their equipment is a mixture of older obsolete units, a few contemporary EDF units and some experimental often unstable and generally untested new units, they may no longer be flavour of the month but the Blackdogs are still the meanest, toughest squadron in the EDF fleet .
