Unfortunately Supreme Commander 2 won't allow you to play multiplayer with players that do not have the same patch installed, even though the changes do not affect the in-game match. If you want to play multiplayer with someone and also use the patch, you can point them to this page.
More information in the "PatchNotes.txt" inside the downloaded zip.
STEP 1 - Go to the Supreme Commander 2 directory. Usually it can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander 2\gamedata"
STEP 2 - Backup the existing "lua.scd" file in the gamedata. You can create a new folder inside gamedata named "Backup" and move the original "lua.scd" file there.
STEP 3 - Inside the downloaded "SupCom2_LittlePatch_20180901.zip" move both the "_LittlePatch.scd" and "lua.scd" files to the gamedata folder in your Supreme Commander 2 directory.
STEP 4 - If everything is correct, the patch should be already installed and you can launch the game.
At the end it should look like this.
Delete or move the "_LittlePatch.scd" file out of gamedata, and replace the modified "lua.scd" with the original one.
IN CASE OF ORIGINAL FILE LOSS - You can restore the files by using Steam to verify integrity of files. For that, go to your game library, right click the "Supreme Commander 2" title, choose "Properties", go to "Local Files" tab, then click "Verify Integrity of Game Files...". Steam will recuperate any original files that have been modified.
IN CASE OF FAILED INTEGRITY VERIFICATION - Rarely it happens... but at this point it's better to just reinstall the game.
