Greetings to all of our distant stone age ancestors and to all current day cro magnons. We have a big announcement to make. So big in fact, that it is going to completely overhaul the production of Stone Rage. We want to make our ancestors proud by putting out the best stone age based game possible, and we believe that we can now truly accomplish this noble goal with the support of the spectacular Unreal Engine 4. We have been using CryEngine for some time now, and, unfortunately, we found that we simply could not continue using it; there were far too many major issues. We were unable to learn CryEngine's new animation system (Mannequin) due to a lacking of documentation, and the engine was not programmer friendly enough, causing massive delays in our production. It is because of this that we are more than excited to be switching to an engine that will truly bring out the full potential of Stone Rage. We have an amazing lineup with some incredible programmers, artists, animators, etc.. and we want to make sure that they have just the right engine to ensure that all of their talents are put to use in a functional, and simple manner with as few hangups as possible. Unreal Engine 4 is an amazing piece of programming that is sure to make Stone Rage an amazing piece of playable art. Have a good day, and stay tuned for Stone Rage news!

Please do note that, for the time being, all current in-game scenes were taken in CryEngine. We will be replacing as soon as we have exported our assets into UE4.

Do not forget to follow us and spread the word on:

Wow, I can understand from Unity to UE4, but from CryEngine to UE4? Interesting! Anyway, hope it works out and good luck with the conversion (took me quite some time, to be honest).

Indeed, i'm getting so sick of Unity myself, but Cryengine 3 to UE4. I'm not really getting the point of that.. (;

@SharkYbg, thank you!

@Stylo, the description says it all. If we think we'll do better with UE4, then we have to go with it :)

Also the Engine as a Service subscription system that CE3 released is a huge disappointment. Really hurts more than helps indies. UE4 is very user friendly and the subscription system is very good and indie friendly

Okay that is a good point. I personally don't regret switching to UE4 instead of cry engine :) Great C++ API and very, very nice support + community.

Good luck guys, looking to see more on how you do on UE4.
The path of moving from CE to UE4 is not easy but rewarding in the end.It's like CE is still aimed for the bigger companies who can hire CE specialists and not the indie devs.

Simply look at UE4. The engine is super easy, and very easy to learn, also it offers an amazing fbx export pipeline. In CE for instance, it took us days to get a rigged character in-game, also now they implemented a new Audio Tool into CE EaaS called Wwise, making it even harder to continue our work with it. Stay tuned fore more news :)

Good luck with UE4 guys, I've had a chance to play around with it myself, and especially Blueprints visual scripting is goddamn AWESOME. With no programming knowledge at all I managed to get a rough first person controller in under an hour... its mindblowing.

Right right, materials are fine. But how are you guys porting the worldspace & level designs from CryEngine to UDK4?

I ask because I have a headstart on a large project, and I'm thinking of also making the jump.
