Ships can now be fully destroyed by taking out the Core

Posted by on

Hello and welcome to StarMade,

this update brings a long awaited feature: the core destruction.

Core Destruction

Before, taking out the core would only take out every player inside the ship. But I realized that in a large battlefield the amount of 'trash' floating around in space would be on one side annoying, and on the other decrease the game's performance in the long run. Since you are now able to save your ship's layout, loosing you ship won't cost you the creativity you put into it.

So the new system will put a counter on your ship, once the core's hitpoints are brought to zero. If that counter reaches 0, the ship will be completely destroyed. The amount of time depends on the mass of the ship: for every block in the ship, you get one second on the counter.
The counter can however be stopped if any player enters the ship. This way, fallen ships can still be salvaged by the enemy or rescued by your team.

here is the counter in action:

Gravity update

The gravity will now correspond with the player, so it's possible to fly on top of a ship. This feature however is still kind of scrappy and can lead to some glitches.

Other noteworthy updates and Bug Fixes

  • added sound for explosion by explosive module
  • the removal of the restriction on size of structures led to some 'ghost objects' the server was placing
  • Game now displays a warning message, if two object are stuck in each other. An auto fix will come soon.

Things to come

I will meddle with the physics system a lot more, making it more robust. Also, look out for space stations and an Online ship sharing option soon.

Thanks for playing the Game,
