Oldschool topdown Shooter with advanced light/shadow effects and an evolving story in a Film Noir style. Shoot many monsters, use light to scare them off, upgrade your weapons, demolish everything around you, battle bosses and do side missions. The game always comes up with something new to keep you entertained. And when you're done with the story, battle on for ranks in worldwide leaderboards in Arcade modes. You get to keep all your upgrades. Or invite a few friends for local multiplayer mayhem. Up to 4 people on one computer can fight each other in Deathmatch or stand together in Coop Survival against ever-growing hordes of enemies.
As a developer you never stop learning. When we released Splatter - Just Harder Times in June of last year, we got a lot of valuable feedback. Sometimes you just need to get some distance to see the big picture again. And we saw that there's a lot of space to make the game even better.
First and foremost we reworked the whole shooting gameplay. All monsters and weapons have been rebalanced to make the battles more dynamic and to make the light/shadow game mechanic even more indispensable. The blood and gore has been reworked, too, as it provides critical feedback to the player on how his/her current play style is doing.
We also gave the story a complete overhaul. We rewrote a lot of characters and dialogue to enable a clear look on Max' issues with humanity. We extended the campaign by two new levels to illustrate central points of the story. And we got all of the story fully voiced by professional voice actors. This really brings the Film Noir-themed story to life and makes a tremendous difference in how the player perceives the game characters.
But it doesn't stop there. New hidden collectibles give permanent bonuses when found. New graphics, sounds and effects such as Realtime Global Illumination or the Film Noir filter which paints the whole screen in Black-White-Red in dire situations make the game appear even nicer. New features, new content for the Arcade modes, even more environment objects to turn into debris... it's way too much to name it all. See for yourself in the new trailer:
All current owners of Splatter on Desura get the new content for free. But of course we want as many players as possible to see this game. So, for a short time, we cut the price in half. Get this game, see Max battling his doubts about humanity in the face of a catastrophe, and shoot hordes of monsters along the way.
Story, Descriptions, Menus... all also available in Polish, Portuguese and Spanish now! Quite an achievement considering the branching story arcs and...
A new update to Splatter - Just Harder Times is now live. This time it's more about maintenance, fixing and improving many details.

this game is so awesome! really gets a tense feeling going with just the top down view. my only complaint is it gets tricky to aim, some clearer indication of where the gun is pointed like a laser sight dot or something simple would be great :)
This is surprisingly very fun for such a simple game, very well done!
Are you the artist who drew "Wasted Talent" webcomic? or you just use the art for your avatar?
Just finished the game, and i have to say: wow! everything from the beginning to the end has been epic, totally love the art style and the level design is just amazing! it's addicting to kill of zombies and (side) missions are really fun! the only downside: why is it so short? after playing for about 4 hours, i finished the complete story including all sidemissions. so i have been wondering: are you guys going to put in some sort of level editor? i would love to make my own missions and play it together with friends, that would be really fun!
and if no such thing is planned, i hope you'll make an sequel :)
We have a mighty editor for the game. We did all the story, cutscenes, levels, scripts and other levels with it :) Unfortunately it's in German. And translating all script commands is going to be a hell of a ride. Still... I agree it would be great to have the editor public. Plus some means to distribute and get user-generated content. A lot of work for a single coder :)
just tried the game out and i love it. great game. BUT, can you please add some vibration for gamepad controls. it feels so weird not feeling my controller vibrate when i fire off a few rounds.
It's on the list for the next update. Can't say when it's done, though.
awesome! this will make a huge difference.
glad to see this game has the twin stick shooter controls. most games like this should have 'em but its amazing how many don't. its the perfect control scheme for this type of game.
Oh, and I just realized a "serious" ,) goof. Hollow pellets (upgrade) actually do more damage to unarmored targets but do NOT exit a body because they tranfer the kinetic energy into the body, not through the body. Hardened bullets/pellets like FMJ would be the ones to do that.
I lack the domain knowledge to judge this :-) I just made that up because I wanted all weapons to have significant improvements beyond plain number scaling. I'll put it on the list.
