Solar Wings is an old school arcade game with hand drawn graphics in HD. Play alone or with a friend in the cooperative mode in the same computer. (game compatible with the XBOX 360 Gamepad)
A good game hindered by a poor hitbox and a need to explain the difference in weapons and why different bombs happen.
Dam good 2d aircraft shooter, playing with the 360 controler the controls seem a bit annoying having to tap the r bumper so much. Has a arcade type of game play, which is my type of game, in scoring system and difficulty.
Has split screen co-op where you can select which player uses which input method to play the game, which most games sadly lack these days.
I'll be brief as I'm preparing a video review. The game has some serious flaws that I hope can be fixed at a later time. Too many to name, I'll just point out a few:
- The ship has inertia.
- Why would you need a fire button when you are using a twin-stick shooter control approach? The right stick can fulfill that task, it's one less button to worry about!
- The hitbox of the ship or the hitboxes of the bullets appear to be bigger than their real sizes, thus causing deaths out of nowhere. It desperately needs clearer hitboxes.
- There are barely any sound cues to enemy fire, bomb activations, pretty much anything.
- The enemies come in pretty chaotic waves, often firing offscreen.
- Bullets are BLACK. I mean, I knew bullets could have contrast problems with bright backgrounds but just make them all pink or purple and you can usually see them just fine!
I guess for the price, some nice ideas (I like the free roaming and defending a bigger ship) and the HD graphics (which indeed look pretty nice) it's fine but I found it to be quite a let down :(
Edit: maybe the 5 was too cruel. I'll rise it to 6. I do hope it gets patched and fixed, the game has potential!

I thought it would be a classic shooter but wow...
Perhaps i'm too tired but the ship hitbox is too big, sometime you don't understand why you died...
i'm gonna play a little and if i understand why i'll come back change my review.
I'm a bit disappointed cause i was expecting a shooter like jamestown or something else.

It's fun, I'd like to give it a higher rating but the explosions are completely unsatisfying. Not having chunks and fx flying everywhere...no excuse for this. I want sparks and **** flying everywhere.
Ships disappearing with a poof is so 1942.... 'cept 1942 even had the decency to make the larger ships animate when 'sploding. Even lazy programmers break the ship in half and fade it away it's not hard
The sound is great except for a couple typical techno tracks(will it ever die man?) Get your glow sticks out.
Also, I love the art work...awesomeness all the way.
Oh yeah, and what they said \/ the hit box is ridiculous. This is one of the shooters where I seem to accidently steer myself into the bullet I was trying to dodge more often than not. Don't ya hate that?
It's a good shooter. It's an arena shooter, so don't be fooled by the screenshots.
A beautiful classic shooter. Only wish there were more stages and different kinds of missions! Using a controller is also a BIG plus!
