A young teen boy, named Lance Lagrand, and his friends, Max Rygiel and Hailey Myslin, find an old scepter that belonged to the king of their enslaved planet, Siobhan Zaunbrecher, and discover that it holds the key to the secrets of the dictatorship and how to make it come crashing down, except the military is on their tail to retrieve the scepter and kill them all, plus Max's dad is in the MP, which gives them even more worry. Throughout towns, villages, dungeons, and puzzles, will these likely but somehow odd heroes be able to uncover the truth of their authoritarian government? Or will their ambition, good looks, and high intelligence get the best of them and come crashing down on them?

Shining Spirits: Chapter 1 BETA has been released! You can download by going to the Downloads tab! Along with the BETA, I've finished most of the beginning cutscenes and gameplay, including the history of the Traex and the Isaerrixi Chambers puzzle, in which I introduced a new character. I've also been replacing the original tilesets with custom ones the past few days. Although they look a lot better, some tiles were incorrectly replaced and I had to go through and fix them.

Shining Spirits: Chapter 1 BETA has been released! You can download by going to the Downloads tab! Along with the BETA, I've finished most of the beginning cutscenes and gameplay, including the history of the Traex and the Isaerrixi Chambers puzzle, in which I introduced a new character. I've also been replacing the original tilesets with custom ones the past few days. Although they look a lot better, some tiles were incorrectly replaced and I had to go through and fix them.


Although I never published an article introducing the game, a fully detailed introduction can be found on our website and here on IndieDB. Aside from that, I've gotten a lot done in the past two weeks since starting development. I've finished the opening cutscene of King Siobhan's flashback and the introduction of his life in modern times. Next to this I implemented the introduction of Max and his "surprise person" that Lance knows. This also brings in Olek Forest and the Olek Forest puzzle. In htis puzzle, there are doors blocking paths in the forest and you must find the button that corresponds to that door somewhere else on the map. Some buttons work, some don't, you'll just have to find out. There is also a trap door that springs up on a certain part of the map and you must solve a riddle to unlock it. After a quick "reunion" by lance and this mysterious person, they find a scepter (known as the Traex) and find out that it holds the key to the secrets of the dictatorship. After all of this, I finished with Isaerrixi Deserts, another puzzle, introducing a new character, and the group being busted by some bad men.

As far as ports to other systems go, RPG Maker VX Ace only allows for Windows executables in builds. However, there are a few tutorials floating around on YouTube that allow you to run these sort of files of Mac and Linux (winetricks). However, I do not claim responsibility over using these sorts of methods and is for your convenience only.

For those who are unaware, "free-to-play" means that no purchase is necessary to play Shining Spirits, whether in its beta stage or official release. Redkix Games is asking for no monetary gain with the release of Shining Spirits, and will not accept any payments, whether out of generosity or support, that are directed towards or related to Shining Spirits. This is due to a number of factors, but the most important one is to give everyone enjoyable content to play instantly and honestly.

As for the BETA release, the beta is intended to be used as a way for the general public to preview Shining Spirits and provide feedback on their experience. This feedback can be suggestions, bug finds, and/or general questions about the game. Please note that this does not represent the final product and some things may change between this beta and the official release. Another thing to note is that this version of Shining Spirits is referred to as the "contest" version. This version is being submitted to the 2014 Indie Game Maker Contest and is edited to fit the criteria for submission. An "uncut" version will be released as the official version.
