Along with all the new game announcements that came out of E3 2016 last week, some new footage for existing VR games was released. One such trailer was for Crytek’s upcoming PlayStation VR-exclusive game, Robinson: The Journey. Check it out, above.
We don’t know much about how Robinson: The Journey will actually play, but there’s much that can be said about its world and setup. Seemingly playing off Crytek’s previously-released tech demos for the Oculus Rift, the Back To Dinosaur Island series, Robinson: The Journey will plunge players into a similarly dinosaur-inhabited world.
Unlike those tech demos, however, it seems like this time around the player isn’t just along for the ride, as Crytek’s executive producer, Elijah Freeman, describes on the PlayStation blog:
“You could say it’s about recreating that level of authenticity on a much, much grander scale. That means not just making something visually stunning, but also telling a story that is emotionally engaging and which resonates with players beyond the game world.”
YouTuber MKIceAndFire captured some actual gameplay footage from the opening, which features the player exploring the prehistoric world after crash-landing on it:
The player also has a gravity gun-like tool which allows them to pick up and interact with physics objects in the world. This tool will also be used to solve puzzles that the player will encounter – such as being able to feed a brontosaurus. There is currently no release date for Robinson: The Journey, so look for it after the PlayStation VR hardware launches on October 13.
