Description

Rite of Life is a life-sim RPG being developed for PC, Mac and Linux. It is heavily inspired by games such as Harvest Moon, Pokémon, Dark Cloud and Monster Hunter. It features a player-driven open world where you start with a small encampment. Through exploring, battling and gathering resources you can turn your home into a prospering town.

History

Rite of Life was initially conceived for a game jam hosted on Itch.io. The game jam was the Procedural Generation Jam hosted in November 2014. Based on the positive response from the people that played the proof of concept version, we decided to develop it further and release the game commercially.

We worked on Rite of Life full-time during our work placement year until September 2015, then the Rebourne team continued to work on it part-time due to finishing final year of university. In September 2015 we ran a Kickstarter to fund a couple of freelancers. Fortunately, we were successful and raised £4,684 with over 200 backers.

Throughout Rite of Life’s development, we’ve exhibited Rite of Life at EGX and other exhibitions. We’ve also spoken about Rite of Life’s development/design at events such as The Future Games Summit, EGX Rezzed, SIGN (Southern Independent Games Network) conference and UKIE’s Careers Bar.

Features

  • A player-driven open world where progression in the game is defined by you. Develop your home, help the villagers become masters of their craft or just focus on yourself. You set your own objectives.
  • Dynamic life simulation - Encounter different enemies, explore secret areas and experience new things as the seasons, variety of weather and time of day alter the world and how you can explore it.
  • Home and interior editor modes, minigames (virtual pet training/racing, cards, fishing, cooking, carnival games), relationships/marriage, seasonal events, farming, crafting and much much more!
