Relapse the Neverland is a narrative driven horror game made by text, art, love, and more importantly, unfolding paths of choices that unravel the character's lives and of an unlucky girl, in the player's hands. There are multiple outcomes for both, the characters and the Playable Character, depending on your involvement as the player.
The game will focus on exploration, story, and heavily on puzzles. There is a heavy theme of correcting past mistakes and repeating cycles. Everything you do matters.
1942, England. You take the role of a former waif named Anna, who receives a strange letter from the orphanage she grew up in beckoning her back to it.
With lost memories due to trauma; Anna seeks to learn who wrote the letter and why post five years after the events of what transpired at Neverland Orphanage does it return to haunt her? What actually happened?
Enemies - Some patrol certain areas of the house, others will be active later throughout the story. One specifically will follow you throughout the game. The Enemies are part of the puzzle in the grand scheme of the game. On a higher difficulty, they will remember what you do and learn from it.
Time - As things get heated up in the game, you will be put against an enemy we face every single day. Time. You will have 24 in-game hours to successfully finish the main mission of the game. Don't like the pressure? Do not worry, you can turn this mechanic off in the options by switching to an easier difficulty in the final version of the game!
Relapsing - Once you acquire the lute; playing the correct songs on the lute will allow you to perform certain core mechanics in the game, such as temporarily slowing down time. One other notable mechanic is allowing you to return to your first hour at the orphanage. Allowing the player to create new solutions for puzzles or change outcomes. Every piece can and will shift accordingly.
Puzzles - The game is very much puzzle based, The introduction of the Lute allows for more complex puzzles and reactions within the game. Time itself is a part of the puzzle.
Choices - Choices will be very present, however, most choices can be amended with the use of the lute. The game will keep track of your use of the lute and it will alter your ending. Choices will also tie in with puzzles and how you solve them. Oh.. don't forget not to show the letter to anyone!
It's been a very busy and I've managed to get a good amount of work done.
The slingshot's purpose is to mainly solve puzzles, however you can also cause reactions with it by hitting characters (though, that's pretty mean!), which I don't recommend unless you're asking for some consequences.
You can also use this tool to attack some monsters in the game, possibly stunning them depending on how many hits they take. This will allow Anna to run away in clutch situations. You cannot kill monsters with this!
You can find ammo for the slingshot throughout the game or you can craft some in the future!
I have been adding idle, attack, death and other animations
to the game to give it more life and not so static.
I also added a fog effect and some shading touch ups that really brings the game closer to what I imagined for it, although it's not finalized in the slightest.
