Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3D engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game. Oh, and did we mention it's FREE?

With the year drawing to an end I've looked back over it, and on behalf of the Red Alert: A Path Beyond staff I’d like to thank the fans for supporting us, the mod has evolved and changed in many ways since the start of 2006, and hopefully will continue to change and grow in the future. As a bit of a late Christmas present, we'd like to show to you some things that we have been working on. Here are our two latest weapon models to be textured.

The M72LAW Rocket Launcher to be used by the Allied Rocket Soldier and the TOZ-194 Shotgun for the Soviet Commissar.

Weapon Update: Allied M72 LAWTula Arms TOZ Shotgun

Both models were made by Sir Phoenixx and textured by mjfabian.
You can find a short video of these two weapons here

Staff member Renardin was invited to attend Electronic Arts Command & Conquer 3 Community Summit; he traveled to EALA and got to see loads of interesting stuff about the upcoming game. He also gave a presentation to EA staff, showing off our mod and new features that we have been able to implement into this engine. From reports, they seem to be very pleased with our work and will continue to support us in the future.

Testing for the upcoming patch continues, with balancing the new units, features & new shaders (shown above) being the main focus

We are also glad that we have proceeded to phase two of the 2006 mod of the year awards and that you can vote for us by clicking here and selecting Red Alert: A Path Beyond from the C&C: Renegade tab.
Thank you all for your continued support, and may you have a happy New Year!

I amazed ea are supporting a breach of IP, they have rep as being not the most mod friendly company.
That’s not saying its a bad thing, bloody well done chaps :)
The fog and the shaders look dang hot, i have no doubt ea will end up giving you a licence to the renegade engine - to make a commercial version
All the best cant wait till you release the beast !

Well, if they do give us a license/source code, we'll be very happy. Actually, it is not a breach of IP, seeming they bought out Westwood Studios, which made the C&C series, so they own the rights to Red alert, and Renegade, the who games we are using. We have a sister mod C&C:Reborn, well, basically both mods merged, so the teams work together and we share forums. But EA has in the past helped us before, Renardin and another staff member also got to attend the Leipzig Games Convention back in august, and got to show off the mods there as well, giving EA staff and some of the public turns at playing each mod online with our internal testers and staff.

But whats more amazing, is they invited Renardin to EALA, and he lives in Belgium, so they do support the community, seeming they flew in about 30 people from around the world to play their new game for three days.

Anyway, enough ranting, our coders are great and will continue to improve the game, bringing it inline with more modern games

I have only been with the mod as a tester for just under a year now and the progress made in that short amount of time sight to see. This is what Mod'ing is all about really... taking an old, some would say antiquated, 3D engine and making it new again. Instead of simply adding new weapons or vehicles to an existing game architype, the APB/Renalert team is crafting a new game first and foremost and then adding in the new assets. Keep on truck'in APB team.

The Red alert: A Path Beyond team and the various contributors are really pushing the envelope with this mod. Honestly, the news here is only barely scratching the surface. They're acheiving what was once deemed impossible, and continue to do it everyday. I don't think any other mod is this dedicated and talented, even compared to the mods of "newer" and "better" games. Congratulations and thanks are in order; keep it up.

The things the APB Team have done with the engine, and the art assets, are truely amazing. Stuff being achieved now was thought impossible with the ageing W3D engine even six months ago. The speed and skill of the team continues to astound me to this day, and I feel privilidged to have been a part of this effort. The community continues to grow day by day, and again, I personally feel that the A Path Beyond Forums are probably the funniest, most coherent, and above all most dramatic forums I have ever been a part of.

It is needless to say that, that APB is my #1 nomination for Mod Of The Year, as it has been for the past three competitions. So thank you, APB team, for consuming about four years of my life. You're welcome to them!
