Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3D engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game. Oh, and did we mention it's FREE?

Well, Ryan3k caught me off guard and posted this a day early! Didn't see it until now.

Ryan3k:I'm posting the blog a little early this week, seeing as I would be far too preoccupied tomorrow to be able to write a proper one. Hope that doesn't bother you guys too much, eh? Anyway, with that, I'll just jump right in to the news.

Forum oldbie Naamloos has created a lovely naval-only map for everyone to enjoy. Here is the thread in the Map Making subforum. He calls it "Hostile Waters." Here at APB we fully support fan-made maps and we encourage everyone to download them so they can be played online on fanmap servers. He's still working the bugs out of it, however, but it's definitely still playable.

Speaking of servers, that brings me to another major announcement. The brand-new, official Red alert: A Path Beyond server has returned, courtesy of oxi and DEX. By "official," that means we (the staff) endorse it! It has a plethora of nice features to it, such as variable weather and atmosphere for each map. Plus, server-side fixes for the Radar Dome damage bug and crate logic issues are in the works. That means you won't have to download anything to enjoy bug-free gameplay. Plus, they have thrown a fanmap server into the mix! Be sure to download all the fanmaps at www.game-maps.net or www.renwarz.com! Click here to download a handy mappack that will get you squared away for some action on the fanmaps server.

Also. Expect a contest (with PRIZES, of course!) to be announced very soon. Yes, we're notorious for holding them from time to time in these parts. We've already got the overall contest concept hammered out and all, but we're not releasing any details, yet! I just thought I would tease you guys with that little tidbit of information.

Tweekbee's new map, "Turning Point" is in its final testing phase, and should be finished shortly. It will probably be included in the next patch, or possibly released directly to the public prior to the .994 release (in which case it would still be bundled with the .994 download). What would you guys prefer? :)

In closing, let me again remind you guys - DOWNLOAD FANMAPS. They really help to keep things interesting while we all wait for .994 to be finished.

More to come next week
