Point of Departure is a 2-D action sidescroller with a focus on randomized gameplay, environmental manipulation/destruction, and plenty of upgrades. Players take control of Messenger 1 (the Envoy) and Security-Bot (the Escort) on a diplomatic mission gone horribly wrong to meet and research an alien lifeform. The team crashes their ship noticeably off-course on planet Hypereus, leaving them heavily damaged, confused, and in desperate need of energy. Players must make their way to the alien world's city through any means necessary in order to discover the mystery of the planet, and to find a way home.
