Penumbra is a first person horror adventure focusing on story, immersion and puzzle solving. Violence and combat is hardly an option - the player has to use wits to guide Philip through his final test, and this makes the series unique in offering a truly dangerous and terrifying experience.

Awesome game, and definitely the most combative out of all three games in the series. A solid dangerous ride all the way through, it also provided puzzles and environmental dangers. Damn those spiders! The very end with hallway literally scared me to death...

One of the most underrated games of all time, a masterpiece of atmosphere, storytelling and horror, recommended to all

This is one of those games that redefines a genera. Its fantastic and everyone should play it.

The Penumbra series is one of the only horror series left in modern gaming - story driven, challenging, dark, and believe it or not, scary. People call Doom, F.E.A.R., Dead Space, and Resident Evil 4-5 horror games even though they're no more than just shooters. If you're looking for something more authentic and deep, then give Penumbra a try. Remember to play them at night.

Absolutely chilling atmosphere, enough clues to get you thinking but not enough to give away too much about the terrifying things waiting for you in the caves. Horror developers take not: this is how it's done. Follow the example set by Frictional, and you can't go wrong.

... Anyone else remember when Silent Hill was this good?
