Description
One Drop Bot is a 3D Puzzle-Platformer where you play as a cute yet somewhat creepy robot, traveling from one room to the next solving challenges, each something different from the last. These challenges will test your skills in a variety of ways. Collecting health throughout the game is key, because when you die, and you will, all health collected up to that point comes back. That means that at respawn, all health ever collected respawns with you as well. The catch, however, is that you have to start over at the very beginning of the game similar to a rogue-like.
History
My name is David, and I'm a solo indie developer. Currently, I work from my parent's house. Not something you want to hear, but hey you got to start somewhere. My parents are very supportive and believe that I'm capable of making a living making videogames.
I used to be confident in that as well until I learned the hard way how competitive the market is through the development of my first game, Modern Arcana. Modern Arcana was a simple game with forgettable graphics. It was fun, but that isn't enough. I realized that the games that got the most attention were the ones with the best graphics. So, I wrapped up Modern Arcana and moved on to the next project, hoping to get the attention of gamers everywhere.
One Drop Bot started out as a game I designed on paper. I wanted to make a game that was completely designed from the ground up with no random elements to it. I had never made a complete game like that before, so I thought it would be fun to do.
I also wanted to go for a cartoony aesthetic with a realistically lit environment, kind of like how many anime are made.
It was something I thought I could put together in a few months, and it would be a fun light romp through indie dev land. Well, it was anything but that. The process I used for making the environments took forever due to render times on my laptop. And coding a 3D platformer... NOT EASY!
Just for comparison, Super Mario Odyssey, a game made by developers who know very well how to make 3D platformers, has a few glitches that aren't too hard to find. And I did it all on my own. It was a painful process, but ultimately worth it. The game's not perfect, but it's come a LONG way.
Every room is designed with a challenge that is meant to throw you off in some way. So, if you can make it to the end on Normal or Expert difficulty, that to me is impressive.
Anyways, at the time of writing this, One Drop Bot has just come out. Hopefully all the time I've spent trying to contact the press pays off. I suppose the numbers will speak for themselves one way or another.
Thanks for reading this.
