Boo! It’s time for a very exciting update to Mondrian – Plastic Reality. We’ve spent a lot of time delving into framerate issues on low to mid-range systems, in particular the Ryzen 5 2500U. We’re very excited to say that with just a little bit of object layer optimization, we’re now able to hit a steady 60fps on Ryzen APU’s, and we’re expecting identical results on Intel HD systems. This is going to make the game a lot easier to bring on the road, easier on battery life, and even easier to port in the future.
On top of these massive performance improvements, we’ve overhauled Night Mode! Now instead of simply inverting the screen, the game sets its “Gesso” color to Black. With background artwork already being slightly transparent, the result is that colors are not damaged from Day Mode, where the Gesso color is White, but the game is a lot easier to look at come nighttime. Head into the game’s Audio/Video Options menu to toggle Night Mode on and check it out!
Finally, don’t think for a minute we’ve forgotten Halloween! The Night Mode improvements aren’t the only thematic addition we’ve made. If you head on over to our mod.io page, you’ll find four extra levels to download: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, the four ghosts from Pac Man! These levels only have their layout so far, so feel free to add modifiers and block types as you wish. Save the level anywhere and use Mondrian Maker’s Import button (located in the Open menu) to bring it into the game!
