After lots of work, the manual trap disarm system is finally done!
So now when your "near trap" gem lights up, you can start searching the floor and ceiling for traps! If you're lucky enough, you'll find one before it finds you. But even if you do manage to find it, you now have to disable the trap by navigating one of the blue gems from the gold slot to the silver slot. Sometimes you'll be lucky and get a trap that has three gems and rusty pincers, other times you'll be unlucky and only get one gem and some very well-oiled, fast moving pincers. Either way, you only need to get one gem into the silver slot to disarm the trap permanently!
For those who hate minigames, there are in-game items that disarm traps automatically. Not just scrolls, but mechanical aids as well, which are good for several uses :)
All still a bit rough, but we're currently just pushing to get the demo out, and this is really fun. Just wait till you try it!
Quite kewl. At least it's pretty original
Thank you :)
Agree! Quite original.
As far as mechanics or mini-games go, this one seems to do the trick, while being interesting enough.
I always enjoyed the more technical side of being a Rogue.
Thank you :D Great to hear positive feedback about it!
I don't care for your stupid minigame, just finish the game already! Just kidding of course, this is a nice idea. It's not really complicated but I can imagine some traps will be very hard to disarm.
Nice and simple, that's our motto! We're running under the formula of "simple to learn, difficult to master". And you won't have to wait too much longer! We're about to hit the alpha test phase, then the demo will be up on Desura before you can say Minotaur!
Without reading your explanation, it took me a couple of seconds to figure out what the trap disarming minigame was representing and what it took to win. Once I 'got it' however, I felt smarter. I wonder if this is what real rogues feel like?
Anyway, minigames can make or break a game (Mass Effect 2, I'm looking at you) and yours seems like it adds a layer of immersion that's not unwelcome.
Bravo!
Thank you! Of course, people will still be able to just buy trap locks or disarm scrolls to bypass them completely if they get sick of them ;) they're not a major part of the game, just an occasional, fun break :)
Minigames... most of the times they make me like 'argh' but I had to figure out what's up with this one. Pretty neat - I liked it!
Thank you! I'm with you on minigames usually being a bit :-\ but I have to say I enjoy playing this one.
I love the animation when falling into the pit, surely frightening new amateur players.
The 'you ******* screwed up' game over screen in the sense of M&M is really nicely done.
Hahaha thank you! Good to see people getting the reference! We actually had someone test play it on the weekend who quite literally screamed out loud when they fell into a pit! Mission success as far as we're concerned!
I usually hate mini games like this, but it's nice that you're going to add items that bypass it altogether. But we'll see, I might actually like it in your game.
I personally can't stand minigames, but we put them in anyway because a lot of people do. But I'm with you lol I can promise you that my character will always stock up on trap disarm scrolls and trap locks before entering a dungeon!
Is this an actual Stat and Skill based cRPG? I assume not, as I would have thought the spotting and disarming of traps would be a skill check if the party had a Thief with them.
This does look quite nice.
Actually, no, this game is all stat and skill based. However, certain parts (such as trap disarming and lock picking) come from the actual player's skill, rather than stats :) Most everything else is stat/skill based. We'll be doing a post on how it works soon-ish!
OK thank you. I was just curious on the Stats and Skills and how they work in the game.
Because the game is infinite, we have a very unique way of processing skill points, so once it's nice and polished we'll be doing up a special entry on here to show it off :) I think you'll like it!
nice idea, reminds me of these thief lockpicking minigames
Another one of our references! Glad you like it!
