How does this even fit the tone of the mod at all? Totally out of place.

I guess its just a matter of taste, some people only like HL2 mods that stick to the vanilla game and others like to see new weapons, new textures, new models, new sounds, new particles, etc.
Personally i am also one that has played more then enough vanilla hl2 mods, specially the weapons of Hl2, have fired them so many times that i want to have new weapons now. Same counts for models, npc's, etc.
But, as i said at the beginning, its all about taste.
Some like it, some don't.
When i have learned anything from years of modding then it is that you NEVER can please everyone.
