Lift is a flight sandbox game. It is based on real world physics, but what you build is completely up to your imagination - from Superman to WWII bombers and everything in between. Compete against your friends in challenges, or play in sandbox mode where anything goes. Time manipulation and plane destruction features allow you to watch your beautiful creation crumble into dust frame by frame when you crash. Early alpha versions are free to play and will be released in Web, PC, and Linux form.

For those of you familiar with Lift, this update brings many exciting changes. For those of you that are new to Lift, this update is a perfect time to get involved.

First up, some new friends in the sandbox. These little green balls slowly pick apart your plane piece by piece, until the inevitable happens.

Sandbox Snipers

Here is a bigger shot of the new sandbox map. Fun for the whole family. I've already spoiled too much with the gif above, so you'll have to explore the rest on your own.

Sandbox 0.2.0

Next, challenges.

0.2.0 menus

There are 4 challenges in version 0.2.0, ranging from easy to hard. Challenge success and failure is tracked on the server, and an overall success rate is displayed for each challenge. Once you complete a challenge, you can enter your name. The "Pilot Ranking List" shows a list of all the pilots that have completed the specific challenge and how many times they have done it.

After selecting a challenge, you need to pick a plane. Success rate for each plane is tracked as well. Some planes are definitely better than others for certain challenges, so hopefully if players are struggling they can use the success rate for the plane as an indicator for what plane to use to complete each challenge.

And now how about some physics...

What a drag

What you see here is two objects. Pretend the objects are moving towards the left side of the image. The red line indicates the force of drag. The longer the line, the greater the force. As you can see, the force of drag varies based on how much surface area is exposed relative to the objects velocity. This provides some subtle yet very rewarding behavior in the simulation. In a coming update, an even better implementation of drag will be available.

Another awesome feature that was added is time manipulation. Check the controls screen for details on use, but you can now pause the simulation, play forward in slow motion, or step frame by frame.

There is a heap of other small changes, but they are pretty boring. Here are the latest downloads.

A major update to the plane builder is in the works. I am still surprised every day at what people build with this ugly editor. Can't wait to see what you guys can build with a proper one!

Thanks for playing, and be sure to follow @liftthegame for regular updates and user spotlights and gifs and other stuff.

This is exactly what I was looking for in a game. A sandbox physics-based open world exploration flight simulator.

Literally everything I love!

I use 64 bit Windows, would the 32 bit version of the game work for me?
