It might be a good idea to put a light at the tip of the crosshair, so that if its dark the player can at least see where the gun would be shooting. Also will keep their eyes focused on their target.
I'll give it a try.
It didn't work out too well. The weapon model is a little too bulky for lights to look right on it. Just to let you know the result :)
I think he means a light dot. On the tip of the front iron sight. It's as simple as adding an emissive/illumination map with a colored dot in the proper UV location of the texture.
I don't think he meant a flashlight of sorts.
Yeah, I see. The issue is that the model is a little bulky which looks quite okay as it is (to me), but as soon as you add the little light dots, it's getting pretty obvious and just doesn't look good in the end.
Weapons from AAA titles are highly detailed in texture and mesh (especially around the parts of the light dots), that makes the light dots look good. They just didn't look good on the otherwise flat weapon surface here.
It's just advice =]
Some guns don't have this, so it's acceptable, just try to be sure it's usable in most place for the players, such as well lit environments.
