InfinityAdmin(Flavien Brebion) resumed his work on the planetary engine of Infinity. Chances are, he is going to work on it for the next 3 months so this news update is only the first of a long series.

The planetary engine as it was, although certainly not bad technically / visually, suffered from a few design / quality problems. In those 3 months InfinityAdmin plans to fix those issues, improve it, and of course implement the missing features ( water, clouds, vegetation, to name a few.. ).

A small list of things that have been done so far:

- Added bump-mapping and the sun specular effect to planet seen from space. It's really looking like the night & day ( no pun intended ) compared to the lighting in the old version of the engine.
- Performance optimizations, more realistic sunsets quality, and handling of HDRI.
- The planet isn't static anymore and can rotate / move, meaning that at surface level you can now see the sun move in the sky, and the atmosphere colors update in real-time.
- Some early work on the rendering of water. Later on InfinityAdmin shall implement true reflections / refractions, shadows from clouds, underwater "fogging", etc..

You people are totally crazy, how can you rip off such a badass game jut by yourself? Every time I think: this can't get any better, it actually gets awhole lot better, because you see what needs to be improved, even though I would love to play anything that look as good as the early stages.
I know this game will be released in 2008 or later so you gotta make the effort, but this is just too much. How does this procedural terrain engine work? Is it something like Vue5? I think your game rules in all aspects. Seriously talented artist(s) and coder involved here. I don't know how I can thank you for making this just for the love of it.
I can't see now where this game is gonna end. Its truly infinite in scope and beauty. I want it so much, I will´start building a time machine right now...
