Beautiful

Each character, enemy and backgrounds are painstakingly hand drawn in 2D artwork. Art work inspired by Francisco de Goya paintings (e.g. Saturn Devouring His Son). Animations are hand drawn using custom in-house rotoscoping techniques as used in classic animation movies (e.g Fire and Ice).

Innovative

“In life we cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand”.

What makes HtA unique is the random tarot-card reading that a player receives at the beginning each new game. Some readings provide an easy start to the game, while other readings force players into harder, less fair situations. Fear not, players who make it through the struggle with bad readings are rewarded in later levels, with more powerful attacks/spells and easier pathways.

Get three of the worst tarot cards, and the player will contract terminal illness. With terminal illness, you will suddenly see a constant countdown timer until the player dies. Players will be able to extend their life for a short while, but death is inevitable. Once a player dies with terminal illness, the game will be over (hardcore mode). However, with terminal illness, which will only occur in rare occasions, the player will be extremely strong, have the best and most unique abilities, and certain areas and bosses will be modified to be easier.

Hellbound: the Awakening Update

As we welcome 2020, and say farewell to 2019, I would like to give you a quick update on Hellbound: the Awakening. For those of you who are new to this game, Hellbound: the Awakening is a passion project developed so far by one person (Miki Manojlovic). Inspired by Divine Comedy, Diablo 1 and retro Castlevania games, Hellbound: the Awakening is a dark and gritty, fantasy game, that takes you on a journey to hell.

EGLX 2019 (Toronto Canada)

Hellbound: the Awakening was on display at EGLX 2019 (Canadian Video Game Convention) that was held at the end of October. I have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, which left me speechless. I can't wait to complete it, so that I can share my experience with everyone else.

Development Update

  • Development is going well so far. I am working as much as I can on the game, however I am not able to work on the game full time, as I am working on other software development projects. These projects provide me with enough financial resources that I can complete the game, and even self publish.
  • I'm currently working on the Hell area, and will provide some videos/screenshots in the next update.
