Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas is a non-commercial PC game being developed by PiratesAhoy!, and is to become the historical seafaring game to end them all! Fun, realistic gameplay on land and at sea, set during the Age of Sail, will provide extensive free play, exciting scripted storylines and intense multiplayer scenarios.
Here's a relatively simple test environment to feast your eyes on. The ship is custom built, but most of the other assets are from the engine SDK. CryEngine certainly delivers on the visuals!
Has she run aground? Methinks the crew would appreciate a trifle bit more sea room to ride at anchor with.
(Just doin' my job.)
Looks very good. I'd like to see some on-deck images later with the un-upgraded Rossiya or something. That would be pretty interesting.
What I liked about playing Pirates of the Caribbean Online is that you could walk around on your ship while out in the middle of the ocean...or pretty much anytime, anywhere.
Would this game have that feature?
Yes, it definitely will. Our modelers are even making full-detail interiors for the ship, so you'll be able to go to your cabin, and eventually anywhere in the ship.
Oops- see below. I failed to click reply to comment. Sorry about that. Edit: Actually yes I did. Disregard.
Man, I'm really curious about the ship physics this'll have. Any idea on what direction you want to go with that?
We'll probably try to make it as realistic as is feasible. I am currently majoring in naval engineering, so in the future when we get to that point I'll be able to work with our programmers to get ships behaving properly.
Ah, and Armada, you (or whoever worked on that) managed to get the wind direction right for a ship at anchor. Good work there.
Edit: And this shouldn't be a reply. Apologies. Tonight isn't my night.
You can thank Wedori for these shots. My PC isn't powerful enough to run this stuff smoothly at the moment. :p
very inice
fantastic thank you for the new wallpaper
Any chance of seamless ship-to-land transitions? perhaps via a dingy? that would be swell. :)
We'll be trying that for sure. Whether we succeed will depend on what the game engine will let us do.
If we set the ships up as 'vehicles' in CryEngine, then seamless transitions are easily possible. We'll have to wait and see for a dingy, so until then you'll have to swim ashore. :p
Is open/closed gunports planned, would love to see that bit of realism and not being able to use lower guns in a storm for fear of flooding the lower gundecks :D
They are definitely planned.
When being implemented will they effect the balancing of the ship and what not? From what I've read in Hornblower in some chases they run out guns to help with steering and whatnot, although I don't know how accurate Hornblower is.
It should, but that's something that we'll have to deal with when we get there.
Physical based lighting beats everything else and it is a must for this game. Looks swell!
