Hazard. A love letter to Berzerk with just a dash of Tron. This is my second proof-of-concept project/game that I would like to remake in Unity.

you do realise players can strafejump into the exit without doin any killing or activating platforms?
Hi!
That sounds like a tricky manoeuvre to pull off.
Are you running a clean version of 1.11?
For example, you aren't mixing Hazard with any other engines/mods?
I tried to pick up on a lot of the exploits that were present in 1.0, like rocket jumping over walls etc...
Please go into more detail, feedback is most welcome.
the game are complete i mean can be play in the darkplaces linux as a single player or as multiplayer?
Yes, this is a complete single player game.
There is no multiplayer component at the moment.
I haven't personally tested it in Linux but if you read numersix's comment below, it will hopefully help you.
>Hazard is a standalone total conversion
This was the clue I needed...
So what you have to do is just drop the latest linux darkplaces into the Hazard folder and run with:
darkplaces-glx -game Clu
Works great. The issues I experienced running it from my mucho overloaded quake folder (I have to test all my release stuff in clean folders) was likely from the pk3 storage file. I suspect that darkplaces might give the regular .pak files priority. I unpacked those, but I have a bunch of quake3 cross linked pk3's I barely even remember.
Thanks for going the extra mile to get it running and providing valuable help to other Linux users who may want to play the game.
Best regards
Adam.
Ok, the review has been updated.
Thanks for updating your review.
Did you get to see the end credits?
;)
Finally got a chance to check this out. Visuals are great and the music is exciting. I like many of the design choices. I put some ideas I think would be interesting to add in the review - if you are interested. Good luck! (again...)
Thanks for the review, I really appreciate the detailed feedback.
Please could you expand on what you think is still present from the original Quake assets (other than the code)?
All sound effects used are replacements and are detailed/credited in txt files included. Some Particles and the Arcs lightning effect are from Darkplaces but not from Quake.
Best regards & many thanks,
Adam.
I heard a lot of quake one sounds, enemy noises, shots, teleports, keys, doors, etc. If you replaced all that, then this might be an override issue or something. And I'm 99% certain I unpacked the latest version. I'll have to try again from a clean install of quake / DP.
Hazard is a standalone total conversion.
The download provided by the link on the downloads page is all you require to run Hazard.
Please don't merge with any other software or try to run it as a mod.
Best regards,
Adam.
Um yeah...I cant run Clu.exe - not on my main system anyway.
That is disappointing.
I would be really interested to find out why it doesn't work for you, as I had a lot of QuakeOne.com beta testers who played through it.
I had problems in v1.0 that were fixed for v1.11 but none were related to engine stability.
So you extract the download, run one of the included shortcuts and it crashes to the desktop?
Please tell me if you manage to fix it. There is always the chance that other people have had this same problem and haven't reported it.
Best regards,
Adam
Ah sorry - my main system is linux only.
Crunch Bang (#!) - Linux version 2.6.32-5-amd64 (Debian 2.6.32-48squeeze4) if you really want to know.
I can run older dos games in .exe form either via dosbox or wine. But anything with hardware accel is out.
