Every once and awhile theres a special kind of bad that comes along.. bad for different reasons. Over ambitious. Its attempts at expanding half-line storyline, like with cutscenes but alot of backtracking, buttons that open doors in another part of the level, nocliping through doors that don't open, and when you finally fight you are met with way to many enemies. This was a demo, but for who? It seems more like a alpha that when trying to be more than can be leaving us with some buggy mediocre looking and hard maps that probably should not have been released.
The mod is fully playable, and any door which is intended to be opened, CAN be opened without noclip. You just need to find a way to do it right...
Right at a helicopter fight you find a rocket launcher but don't have enough ammo to take on the helicopter and just get killed, a point with 2 rooms and 5 buttons that don't seem to do anything. I know there probably is ways to do all of this (even if its non-sense like using the tripmine to blow open a steel grate that we are just supposed to know) but its quite difficult and nonsensical design choices, which comes back to the point about frequent backtracking on maps that are painful to get through ... even 2 points in the mod that make your weapons vanish. I cannot fathom why the dev thought this was a good idea.
The story ends up feeling awkwardly out of place half-finished, with some stuff about Gina.. Gordon's sister that afterwards just felt like it was there for the sake of it, to be make the mod seem like alot of thought was put into this. I don't even mind the flat lighting or the difficulty if it atleast give you decent amount of ammo and or had any sense of pacing. Everything about this is painful but I know that like any weird mod, it can get an audience.
Getting through the prologue is the worst part of it after that it is a very enjoyable mod
