Pick up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people, people he cares about, are counting on him.
This is my attempt to redesign every single sound found in Half Life 2, mostly for the sake of learning and practicing sound design. The idea is to modernize the overall sound of the game and make everything sound both more intimidating but also more satisfying. The sounds themselves were inspired by several modern games including Doom 2016, Insurgency Sandstorm, Prey and the new Wolfenstein games among others. All sounds were created either with my own samples, CC0 audio samples or a blend of both. Eventually the entire game's audio will be remade. Until then updates will follow, but it'll probably take me a long time to finish this mod. Right now we got a lot of the weapons, some ambience, physics, impacts and a complete revoice of the combine soldiers. Stay tuned for more!
Heads up: This mod was made with MMod in mind. It'll work somewhat without it but I recommend it for the full experience (I would also just.. recommend MMod in general, it's really good). You can find it here:
The summary says it all, I made this mod as a personal project to practice sound design on and it's been going pretty alright, so I decided to share the current version of it. I'm using my own samples and CC0 samples as a base and then mix them until, hopefully, they reach a contemporary standard
Right now the mod replaces the following sounds:
- Weapon sounds for the Pistol, SMG, Pulse Rifle, Emplacement Gun, Revolver, Shotgun, Crossbow and Annabelle, as well as some foley sounds
- A complete overhaul of the Combine voices
- Attack Heli Sounds
- Impact sounds for Concrete, Metal, Wood and Plaster
- Physics and breakiing sounds for Wood
- Hit Feedback sounds
More sounds will follow in the future
