In 2011, the United States of America and the European Union sign the historic SLAMS (Space-Land-Air Missile Shield) Treaty, agreeing to co-develop technologies for a comprehensive, interlocking anti-ballistic missile system. Left out of the treaty, Russia accelerates development of its own system. SLAMS is activated in 2014. The U.S. and E.U. test launch nuclear salvos against each other, which the SLAMS weapons completely destroy. Emboldened by the success of the tests, the U.S. and E.U. pronounce "the end of strategic nuclear war," and the world celebrates a new age of peace and security. However, in 2015 it is found that major oil companies have greatly overstated the amount of recoverable oil reserves. Energy security becomes the explicit priority of governments around the world. Russia, being the world's number one supplier of natural gas and crude oil, has its economy skyrocket up with the energy crisis, spending its oil profits on modernizing its armed forces and utilizing its new-found power to influence world events. A nuclear war occurs between Saudi Arabia and Iran in 2016, killing 20 million, further compounding the energy crisis and greatly destabilizing the nations of Europe. With crude oil now at USD 800 a barrel, the E.U. member-states are forced to consolidate political, economic, and military power in the face of growing global security, environmental and economic concerns. Morphing to become the new "European Federation" (E.F.) in 2018, most of the wealthy Western European States are now recognized as a single independent state in its own right. The United Kingdom and Ireland decline membership while Switzerland remains neutral. The U.S. and E.F. regard each other's power as a threat to their own, and the now fractured former allies embark on a costly space arms race with each other. The militarization of space reaches its peak in 2018, when the United States reveals plans to launch the Freedom Star space station into high orbit by 2020, in an effort to regain its position as the premier world superpower. While partly designed for civilian research purposes, the station will also house three companies of U.S. Marines, who can deploy anywhere on Earth within 90 minutes. International reaction is extremely negative, to say the least. The E.F. and Russia in particular despise the development, seeing it as a way the U.S. could use to neutralize their portion of anti-ballistic defenses and upset the balance of power. The E.F. withdraw from the already divided NATO in protest.

The rest of the Story is yours to create but only one thing is sure, this is the last war, the END WAR.

The biggest innovation of this game is it's Voice Recognition System : OVERLORD
The game features optional voice commands so that the player may use a headset to give orders to their troops, although the troops will only react to valid and game-related orders in certain languages, but are able to understand many accents of those languages. Officials at Ubisoft Shanghai said it was also possible to control the game using voice commands only. Hearing enemy soldiers communicate gives the player a strategic advantage to counter their attack with one of their own.

If this game had been mod friendly it would have been a huge success.. what a shame.

I would say one thing though about this game, all of its designs (e.g. unit design, factions etc) and concepts (an updating conflict between three factions every day) are fantastic. If someone were to make a C&C 3, World in Conflict or some sort of Battlefield-themed mod using the same designs, concepts and atmosphere, it would be great. After all of these years, I'm still using the same EFEC rifleman avatar simply because it looks badass.

The game itself, unfortunately, isn't very good. It gets boring very fast.

There is a hope that EndWar 2 will be good, but I highly doubt it will improve upon the first game that much (because it caters to the console crowd) OR if it will ever come out at all, it's been so long since EndWar 2 was last mentioned (which was back in 2009!).

rock-paper-scissors is like real life in a sense... im mean you wouldnt take out a tank with a pistol now would you, you use an explosive such as an RPG or heavy mines, you dont take out AA guns with aircraft thats judt retarded, you use a ground vehicle, and good luck destroying an entire row of artillery installations with tanks and ground units. also i realize that a tank is destructive hell against infantry (im an ex-marine with 2 tours behind me i should know) but thats why they dont use tanks against infantry, the side effect of all the firepower is creating so much cover for the infantry to use to get away from the machine guns, its better to use machine guns and Gattling guns against infantry. i have no idea what works best against snipers since i was lucky enough to never have to face any my self although a friend says the solution is to use other snipers and choppers.

yeah... I doubt you are a Marine. No Marine calls themselves "ex-marines")and you would know how to deal with snipers in real life.

Yeah, that was a long time ago, it was that 'I'm so edgy' phase, I was still in school, etc etc...honestly I'd rather forget a lot of my early comments and stuff. I'd delete it if I could, I'm really embarrassed and ashamed of stuff I used to say and do. I'd erase everything I did during 2009-2012 if I could.

This game is very nice. But it doesn't have that something... special... that makes a game feel epic.
