Empire in the Sky is an independently developed PC video game set in a stylized 1960s-1980s retro cartoon universe with blatant and extensive references to NASA and other "Space Race" icons. Much of the data is modeled after real life, so you might even learn something! This is the "lava lamp" of space RPG shooters! Travel the cosmos in a fully customizable spacecraft -- designed by you (or us). Fight or befriend scores of alien civilizations in your quest to rule the cosmos, while exploring a rich, procedurally generated world that includes planets, planetary bases, towns, cities and starbases. Build a nearly limitless and vast empire that stretches across hundreds of star systems, on thousands of planets! Empire in the Sky optionally lets you build your own starbases and planetary bases, and enhance your designs by crafting individual spacecraft parts.

Post new issues here! Please browse for old issues, it may solve your problem or answer your question. When describing bugs, be very descriptive and try to remember everything you did after starting the application.

I've tried 3 times now to star the game and each time it crashes :/. I did think the picture shown with the "don't kill me, i'm a process" was a very interesting idea as you have to actually pay attention to know whats happening. My question though is, is there something I'm doing wrong? I would like to give this game a try, i just can't seem to get it to start without crashing after 5 minutes.

I need to know more about your specifications to make any sort of judgement on why your copy crashes. One way to help is to run the special 'EITS-Logger.exe' version located in your game's installation directory. Running this version will still crash if the regular game crashes, but it will output a log file called "log.txt" located in 'My Documents/EITS' located in your documents folder. (the full path is something like C:/Users/yourusername/Documents/EITS/log.txt)

Send a copy of that to empire.in.the.sky@gmail.com and I can assess what's going on.

Common issues are:

1) Your video card is an Intel OpenGL 2.1 card, which is not enough to play the game. This is a common graphics card that comes with lots of machines, or is in laptops. It does not meet the minimum requirements to play.
2) Your version of OpenAL is not OpenAL Community, available at kcat.strangesoft.net
3) You simply lack the amount of RAM necessary (more than 3GB) or your CPU isn't new enough.

Before you rush out and buy things, or give up trying, please try assessing the issue with the EITS-Logger.exe instructions.

Thank you for the quick reply. Yeah the 3GB ram is the issue then. Thank you very much for the help. Look forward to trying this game when I do upgrade.

I'm not entirely sure what that is Can you give me more information?
One way to do this is to run the EITS-Logger.exe inside the install dir (C:/Program Files/Desura/common/empire-in-the-sky/EITS-Logger.exe)

It will dump a .txt file in /MyDocuments/EITS that can be emailed to empire.in.the.sky@gmail.com

According to Wikipedia:

Compatibility

DEP occasionally highlights software problems, usually with older software that was not compiled and tested to take advantage of the feature. Users have experienced problems using various command line commands that are a part of Microsoft's Services for Unix, which is included as part of Vista as well as Windows Server 2003 R2.[citation needed]These problems may be masked by disabling DEP, but at the risk of increasing exposure of the system to malware. DEP can be turned off on a per-application basis, or turned off entirely for all non-essential Windows programs and services.[9] Microsoft recommends that DEP not be globally disabled where an application crashes due to a DEP error. Instead, the author or vendor of the offending software should firstly be contacted for an updated version that does not violate DEP, or failing that, that DEP be disabled on an exception basis for the offending application only.[10]DEP is applied to an entire process, so even if an application runs perfectly with DEP, it may need to be disabled if a non-DEP compliant extension is added that runs in the same process space. For example, DEP-related problems can occasionally occur with DEP-compliant core operating system components such as Windows Explorer, Internet Explorerand Windows Installer as they support in-process third party extensions or plugins that may not be DEP-compliant.[11]

Of note, the following card from INTEL proved to be compatible with the core engine, but the engine ran at 2FPS

INTEL graphics card detected.Intel Intel(R) HD Graphics Family 3.1.0 - Build 8.15.10.2418
