Eidol cards

What is Eidol?

Eidol is an online trading card game with a PvE Duel campaign where players can battle against various enemies (PvE) up to Level 10. A PvP matchmaking mode is coming in Summer 2023!

Is it free?

Yes it's free to sign up and play.

Do I have to buy a pack in order to play?

No, you will receive 1 free card when you create an account, which is all you need to create a deck and start playing. The free card is always an "Eidol", or boss-type card with higher stats than the average card.

How do I play?

Eidol

It's a turn-based, card game between 2 players, where each player tries to defeat each other's Eidol card - their main hero card. Players may draw other card types throughout the game:

  • Minions, which are like lesser Eidols that can attack and be taken out; but unlike Eidols the game continues when Minions are taken out.
  • and Fields, which, when played, are placed at random locations on the board, and block the tile they're currently on. They can be used to corner or kite an opponent.

What does a "turn" consist of?

On each turn, a player must both "Draw 1" and "Play 1". Even if they don't have more cards to draw, the player must still click the deck to signal their end of turn. Drawing a card puts it in the player's hand to be either played or discarded. A discard counts as a draw, and moving a card on the board counts as a play.

How do I deal damage?

Eidol card

The numbers on the card perimeter correspond to damage dealt to adjacent cells at the end of a turn. The 10 in the bottom-right, for example, would deal 10 damage to the card in the cell to the bottom-right. Say the card in the cell to the bottom-right had a 4 in the top-left, then this Ice Lich card would only deal 6 damage, as the 4 mitigates the 10. If the number was higher, say 13 instead of 4, then The Ice Lich would take 3 damage at the end of the turn as 13 is more than 10.

When the player Eidol's health bar becomes empty (as shown) the player loses. In the PvE campaign, when a player wins they will be awarded some amount of experience (EXP), and after gaining enough EXP will level up. Level cap is currently 10. Leveling up unlocks access to play against other Eidols.

How do I build a deck?

Deck Builder

Visit the Deck Builder and click New Deck. You can have as few as 1 and as many as 40 cards in a deck, but there must be exactly 1 Eidol. The Eidol is your main hero card. Upon registration, you will receive 1 free Eidol card, so you can immediately create a single-card deck, and play "1v1" in the PvE campaign for free. Because cards are drawn at random, if you prefer certain cards, you might create a deck with just those few to guarantee you'll draw them right away. Or you might choose to have many cards in a deck.

How are the cards traded?

Ownership is recorded on the public Dereva ledger. Dereva is a public, open-source, peer-to-peer technology that keeps track of card transfers.

Can I sell unwanted cards?

Technically yes: Record ownership can be transferred using Dereva, but there is no feature like an "Auction House" within Eidol yet. It is planned.

Is there a mobile version?

The mobile web version is planned to release May 5, 2023 with nice card stack and swipe effects when browsing cards and a responsive in-game experience for the smaller screen. It's not determined yet if there will be native iOS or Android versions.

Is there a native desktop app?

Not yet, but there likely will be soon.
