Eduras? combines aspects and mechanics from Arena-Shooters, MOBA games and Real-Time-Strategy titles to make an innovative competitive video game. Two teams of three to five players each compete for control over the opponent's main base by making their way through MOBA-style arenas conquering checkpoints using a capability set known from typical Arena-Shooters. However, the players are not going to have those capabilities right after spawning, nor can they simply pick them up, but instead - and this is the essence of Eduras? - they are provided by a team mate who is playing in an RTS-style mode.

Those two different roles are referred to as "on the road" for the players who run around in the arena and "Coordinator" for the players in RTS-mode.
Both roles are designed such that they become useless without the other. A player on the road can't achieve anything without his counterpart dropping him items, healing him up and so on. On the other hand, as a Coordinator cannot move, he obviously cannot conquer checkpoints either. Also he doesn't have any tool to damage the opponent directly without the help of his fellows.
This design encourages and enforces communication and thoughtful team-play.

Features

Here's a short list of what has been implemented so far:

  • Seven items with very unique characteristics - your task is to master each of them in the right situations
  • Power-Ups to improve your speed and health or to become invisible
  • A bunch of abilities you can use as a Coordinator to support your team mates.
  • Classical (Team-)Deathmatch modes which only allow players to be on the road
  • The "Edura!" game mode which works as described above (with both roles).
  • Freely configurable game settings that lets you change almost anything you want if you find some strategies of the game imbalanced
  • A spectator mode with dedicated UI that simplifies following a game
  • Dedicated servers for both LAN and Internet are coming with a tool for remote access.
  • A map editor to get creative yourself
  • Available on Mac, Windows and Linux.
Goals and Future

This game is a multiplayer only game with a strong focus on competitive play. It's dedicated to those gamers who enjoy the challenge of competing at high level themselfs or follow and watch high level competitive play. In order to make Eduras? as competitive as possible, we are aiming to keep the hardware requirements as low as possible, to eliminate randomness, to raise the skill cap as high as we can and to make following matches the most convenient, as well as giving players the opportunity to compare themselves to others. Therefore, we'd like to integrate a complete eSport infrastructure eventually, including the following:

  • Integration of Steam functionalities to be able to identify players, open teams, have anti-cheat (VAC), ...
  • Independ matchmaking for both random teams and fixed teams
  • ELO-based ranking system for fixed teams giving you the choice to play only teams that are ranked about the same or play any team
  • Dedicated spectator servers to be able to handle a huge number of concurrent viewers
  • Mobile clients offering various levels of displaying a match to spectate such that anyone can follow a game from anywhere regardless of the hardware or Internet connection speed
  • live-streaming integration (Twitch)
