High resolution textures for Dungeon Siege made using ESRGAN.
After more than 4 months of work I have uploaded the texture pack for Dungeon Siege that contains 3933 updated textures and is 6 GB large. All terrain textures have been updated, 750 world objects and decals, as well as bosses and some larger enemies and NPCs.
Everything is based on original textures, there are no custom textures. The algorithm increases width and height of textures four times and adds new detail. I think the new textures preserved the original look very faithfully and is a major improvement.

NOTE #1: This texture pack was also uploaded to Nexus Mods by a third party with my permission. I don't have an account there and don't maintain that page, so I can not guarantee it has the latest files.
NOTE #2: Some people have reported that game crashes with a memory error if these textures are used with Ultima mods and that using Large Address Aware program fixes the issue. You can download it here: Techpowerup.com

INSTRUCTIONS
After extracting the archive with WinRAR or 7-Zip, you will find the installation instructions in the README file. I also included MD5 checksums, so you can verify the files.
This final release contains NO Legends Of Aranna specific textures, you can download displacer textures on the link below. Other LOA textures will be updated some time in the future: Moddb.com
UPDATE (November 12, 2019)
Part 2 is now available to download from the link below. I have finished Glacern and snow terrain textures, as well as Castle Ehb dungeon. I also finished Cliffs Of Fire and 3 dungeons.
UPDATE (December 10, 2019)
Parts 3 and 4 have textures for; Crypts Of Sacred Blood, Wesrin Cross, Gliterdelve Mine, ice and crystal caverns, forest and traveler camp.
UPDATE (December 26, 2019)
Parts 5 and 6 have textures for; swamp, goblins, Fortress Kroth, caves, lava caverns and Gom lair. This makes all the larger areas updated.
UPDATE (January 7, 2020)
Part 7 contains the last remaining areas like dungeons, garden, keeps, etc... It also includes items from previous areas like swamp and goblin area, as well as updated boss textures and few larger enemies, npcs and shields. This is the final part, but not the final release. I will have to go back and update some things I skipped, missed and few things I am not happy with, but you can consider this project 99% complete.
UPDATE (February 16, 2020)
Final release. More than 500 new textures. Improved older textures I was not happy with.
UPDATE (March 2, 2020)
Fixed alpha channel in waterfall textures, slightly improved rock bridges and few blurry textures and added few new ones. If you downloaded the previous February 16 release you can download just this small update:

Below are several direct comparisons of the textures themselves. Right click on them and press "View Image" to see them in their full size. In top-left corner is the original texture in its original size, they are 128x128 or 256x256 pixels. Then left is that texture upscaled 4 times using linear filtering like in the game and on right is the new ESRGAN texture. You can see individual leaves of grass now and dirt is much more detailed. Wood gets a lot of fine detail. Stone and bricks get grain and roughness of the surface.

Whaaou amazing !
I'm probably gonna replay this game just because of this mod.
Thank you so much for doing this! I've wanted to for an eternity.
Fantastic Job m8! Got all six packs instaled and it has transformed the smeary mess I was left with at 1080. I had to leave you some feedback here, you have made an OG Gamer (Old Git) very happy! Cheers from UK.
Thank you, I am happy to hear people are using this mod and appreciate the hard work. I have uploaded the last part 7 today. Now I need to re-check everything to see if I missed something and fix few things for the final release.
Hi, Thanks for taking the time to do this update.I downloaded the files and am going to set them up shortly. Your screenshots look really great, so I'm looking forward to playing.
I took the liberty of posting a link here at Siegetheday.org, as there a number of folks still playing and modding both DS1 and DS2.
Thank you. When I started this I wanted to join that forum and share this there, but I completely forgot about it, I even have it bookmarked :(
Well, you are certainly welcome to drop by. I posted some screenshots today and your textures definitely look brighter and crisper.
Bookmarked. Thanks for uploading a great mod. :)
Would be really helpful if you could upload a torrent link please. :)
My upload speed is too slow to seed and I don't have my computer turned on all the time. You can download from ModDB or Google Drive link in the description.
What about armor, weapons, hero textures? And two official mini addons?
LOA will be done some time in the future. As for armor I will have to see about that, they are already much higher quality than terrain so the improvement is not really noticeable. Weapons are too small.
Ah ok. I talk about Return to Arhock and Yesterhaven official addons. Yesterhaven have a 3 new unique bosses. I make a this mod in some time ago Moddb.com and mybe make a new version.
Those two use textures from original game, but I haven't checked how many new textures those two have. I will keep it in mind when I start working on LOA.
Can you please make this Mod compatible for the Dungeon Siege 2 Legendary Mod?
I have no experience modding DS2, but as far as I know DS2 uses different texture format, so all files must be converted.
Machine Learning did this? wow... just... wow.
This is incredible, it's absolutely fantastic.
I'm just thinking of all the possibilities of other games that could undergo the same treatment, Blade of Darkness springs to mind, I'm frothing at the thought of it.
It does what modders cant stop themselves from doing time and time again.
What we want: higher res textures for older games
What we get: completely new and ridiculously high resolution textures that break immersion and cohesiveness.
Thank you for your work on this.
Thanks. I was also surprised how well it preserved the original look.
I'm drooling over the possibility of Aces of The Pacific having a texture update. I bet the conversion may not work on an old DOS game like that though.
Thank you, great mod. I've a problem: (my spec: i7 6800k, 16gb ram, ssd, geforce 1060 6GB). After install the mod, there is a texture flipping from time to time and after a few minutes the game crash (low memory error). What should I do with this?
Thanks again :)
I'm sorry, I don't know what could be the problem, you are the first one to report a crash like this.
Thanks for answer. I use the mod Ultima V: Lazarus. Your awesome textures won't properly work with Ultima. See the difference but the result is ctd. I've tested your mod with vanilla DS and it's work like a charm :)
I have the same issue I tried everything to get it to work with Ultima 5 Lazarus. I keep getting "Not enough memory resources are available to process this command." after a few minutes of gameplay. I beg the community please try to make U5 Lazarus work with High-res Textures! both projects are amazing and compliment each other very well!
UPDATE! - IT WORKS!!!
To anyone having the out of memory error issue with this HQ Texture pack search for techpowerup Large Address Aware and patch the dungeonsiege.exe with that utility, it takes 2 seconds (Back it up first!) worked for me and its SMOOOOTH now!!! I can now play the Ultima 5 Lazarus Mod with this HQ Texture pack!!! mad respect for both projects and for this guy leading me to this solution with his amazing wiki for Dungeon Siege
GenesisFR/DS1TroubleshootingGuide over on github!
Awesome, thanks for doing this man!
thank you so much. I remember reading the pc gamer review of this game way back and was so excited for it.
broken archive
Even if it gets corrupted during download it has a recovery record to repair it with WinRAR.
Hi, first of all, great mod!
I have played DS many hours and just now the game has began crushing. The message is "A fatal error has occurred and the app must shut down. Critical error: VirtualAlloc( 5592420, 16384 ) failed with error (...) Sorry but must go to sleep now.". If a remove the HisRes textures, the error goes away. Bye!
When does it crash ? When you load a game, when you enter a specific area ? Is it single player or multiplayer map ? Which version of the game are you playing; original of LOA ?
Hi!
I was playing the campaign in single player when half way through a cave(I believe it was de cave before Ehb castle)the game started crashing, one moment I was fighting monsters and when I moved to continue exploring it started crashing always on the same place. Game version is 1.5
Thanks!
Hey, could you tell me whether you think this might be compatible with total conversion mods for DS1 such as Ultima V / VI? I wager since it's only retextures it should be, right? Thanks for your stunning work!
It should be. If a mod uses original textures, then the game will simply load these new ones. Problem is if a mod has some unique textures then it will look bad if, for example, you have a low resolution dirt that connects to high resolution grass.
Hi I really appreciate your work. It is amazing. Dungeon siege is my childhood, and I really want to go back with my memories and your modification. Nice work.
Is there also vegetation ( trees, bush,....) in new resolution? Or do you intend make it?
It is, but the difference is not very noticeable like on the ground or wall textures.
Thank you for your work. I have recently came back to playing DS1 after many years. You have done a good thing for this game.

I'm glad you liked it, thanks.
Back in the days I finished all 3 games. Always had a tickle to play them but was afraid the resolution would kill the fun. this might be the answer - installing it now :) thanks for your time and contribution
Hello there. really thanks for your work. If i donwnload this mod - unpack - follow instruction - nothing changed ...nothing happens. Somebody met this problem ?:
You might have made a mistake following the instructions or you are playing the game on low resolution or the camera is zoomed out so far that the difference is not noticeable or maybe you are playing LOA campaign or a mod with custom textures that are not updated... it could be many things.

Well done!
I've never played Dungeon Siege (born 1990), it was your work that convinced me to give it a try. I finished Dungeon Siege and it's a great game and your work makes it look much better than the original. Importantly, these are original textures (not created), so the "reception" of the game is exactly the same as on the day of release.
Thanks again for your work, best regards!
Ps: Sorry for my english.
readme.txt doesnt say how to install 5 files like DS_HRT_c.dsres other than putting them into a resources directory, it didnt work. would someone care to tell me how to install them?
That is all you have to do, I don't know why it doesn't work for you.
